Who wants to help me with ideas for our master bedroom?
I put together a mood board with some of my ideas a while back:
There are a few changes I would like to make to this but my external hard drive crashed and I have yet to hear back if any of the info can be saved.
Anyway, that is the rug we don't have but I'd love to get from a local dealer. The floors are natural hickory and the trim will be cherry. The bed, nightstands, and dresser will be/are all cherry (that is our actual bed frame pictured) with the black hardware shown. We have the patterned sheets shown and would like to stick with a solid white duvet. The accent pillow is random and could/will be something else. We would like to buy a quilt/blanket with texture for the end of the bed but instead of the brown one shown I'm thinking of a wool blanket like this:
There will be a gallery wall with sepia toned vintage photography around the TV. The owl print I have but I think I'm going to put that in the bathroom instead. We have the light fixture I'm planning to make a round convex mirror with a gold frame for over the bed similar to this:
I still need to pick:
- a paint color - I have SW neutral tan shown but I'm thinking a warm gray color instead like SW modern gray seen here:
Would that rug go well with light gray walls or do I need to stick with a beige?
- window treatments - I want to do both a roman shade and curtain panels. Originally I was thinking a woven wood roman shade in a matching cherry color but I don't like how big the stack heights are. They would cover 7-9" of the window even when fully open. So I might do a fabric roman blind instead in a darker possibly patterned fabric. For the curtains I was originally thinking silk ivory pinch pleat curtains like these:
But I don't know if they would work with gray walls though. I want to buy/make black curtain rods that return back to the wall like the one shown or these from PB:
- a color for the tufted chair - I'd like to use a velvet in either a blue gray similar to the rug or a warm gray. In this mood board I just desaturated it a bit to try to make it look gray.
Do I need to bring in more yellow gold colors or blues because of the rug? We'll need a few more pieces of artwork, lamps for the nightstands, and a couple accessories so those could fill that void if need be.

I like the modern gray paint and the gray chair. I don't think you need to bring in any more warm accents. With the floors, rug, trim & furniture warm, I like the idea that the permanent things are the warm ones.
I have seen gray/ivory and gray/gold done together before...it was stunning. Now that I think of it, you see combinations like that a lot in magazines like Veranda or House Beautiful.
I either read or heard a designer talking about neutral colors, and he said that gray is far more versatile than tan/ivory/beige tones, because it works with every color (including those colors) and they are much more limited.
I'm not sure about the gold mirror and ivory curtains. I think they need to be more gray/cool toned.
Thanks bunny! Yeah that's what I'm beginning to think too. I tend to try to make everything warm toned these days. What color would you make the mirror and curtains then? I'd like to keep the curtains fairly neutral so maybe white?
Is the rug as warm IRL as it is on here? With the warm rug sitting on warm wood floors, then greige everything everywhere else, I feel like there'll be a disconnect.
Like the other posters in another post today, I'm ready for some color. You know my frequent refrain on here is that the gray trend of the 2010s is going down in history as our Soviet period. Do you have any plans to pull out any of the colors from the rug?
The visual texture of the bamboo blinds adds so much to a room. I think that's well worth the trade-off of the 6-7" inches of view.

Maybe the dark color of the hardware?
I've seen gold and grey look amazing, but with hardly another warm toned thing in sight. I think here the gold punch would be lost among the warm furniture/floor/rugs.
I'm with you Tarheels on the color, but I think from PP you are pretty dedicated to a neutral scheme for the whole house right?
I like your mood board. I think there could a nice way to add some color here and there. Maybe a color for the wool throw/blanket. Or the accent pillow. In general, I love a soothing neutral color on walls for BR. We have SW Essential Gray. Looks as great when we have our gray bedding as when we have our red plaid bedding.

The rug is just a tad warmer in the picture than IRL. Well crap the gray was my way of getting away from the everything white/ivory scheme that you and others on this board were not a fan of previously. I'm just going to buy a couple sample colors and paint them on the wall I guess.
Like I said in my post I want to bring in color with the artwork (one large painting/print and two medium size pieces, maybe more) and accessories. The chair, accent pillows...I'll probably get some euro pillows that I didn't mention above, lamps on each nightstand, the roman shades if we go with fabric, and things on the 6' long dresser and nightstands.
It's all the wood that is giving me a hard time committing to a color. Cherry is very much a color that is very red for wood and it will be everywhere in the room. Natural hickory is also a crazy bold pattern of two colors the darker color looks like a light cherry and the lighter color is similar to maple. It's not like I'm working with white trim and a neutral wood like walnut. Like I said I lost all of my photos but let me see if I can find any online...
The master bedroom floor:
The same flooring in the spare bedrooms that have SW Perfect Greige and color similar silver sage from before:

No not the whole house just the master bed and bath. You can tell from my Master Bedroom board on Pinterest the look I was going for: pinterest.com/3acres/bedroom/
The tile in the master bath is a mix of tans, creams, and some various colors in the accent tile. We'll also have a heck of a lot of cherry cabinetry in the bathroom as well.
LOL there is that owl painting again.
A color I was considering as an accent is coral. Would that look good? Here's an inspiration picture:
315 - Thank you I'll check out that color tomorrow at SW! I have a whole list of colors I need to see in person.
Juno - Maybe. We're waiting for a while until we finish this remodel and replace some appliances that are limping along first. Hopefully it will still be there since their inventory is usually there for a long time. If we don't get this one we'd like to get something very similar. Hopefully the room will be neutral enough to just plop it down and add a bunch of accessories to finish off the room.
