I never really thought about it--but now I'm thinking that everytime my fbook friends post food pictures, they're usually asian. So-- is this an asian thing? Or do non-asians do it too?
omg, sfgal, I can't believe you got to go to the french laundry. I'm SO JEALOUS. DH and I are trying to work it out with some friends to make it there this year.
I thought food blogs/twitters/tumblrs/instagram were way up there on "Stuff White People Like".
When I was a kid there was a joke about someone in NYC taking a "picture of japanese tourists taking pictures of japanese tourists taking pictures", but that was 20 years ago.
EDIT: ofc the "Stuff White People Like" blog should really be called "Stuff Young White Urban Well-Educated White People Like"
I think the thing in that blog that's asian is "asian people taking picture of asian people taking pictures". in greece we saw a lot of asian tourists taking pictures of their friends taking pictures of something. this, I do not get.
yea, I love Thomas Keller too, because he's one of the big name chefs that isn't a pain in the ass about food allergies. so many of the top 10 restaurants aren't accommodating .
I think this is more common in Asian/younger people. My super unscientific reasons: I use the Foodspotting app on my iphone to find restaurants close to where I am. It seems like the asian restaurants always have tons of photo submissions, were other close-by equally busy places do not. I know that non-asian folks eat at asian restaurants, too, so there's really weak science behind my observations!
I love it when people take photos of food. How many times have you ordered something different off a menu because you saw a photo or you saw the dish go by in a restaurant?
