Old Navy runs a little big. Carters runs a little small. DD wears a 5T in Old Navy, a 4 or 5 in Carters, 4 in Children's Place, and 4 in Gymboree/Crazy 8.
ON seems wider and shorter to me. Really, as much as I love their styles, I think the knits shrink up really badly so I generally only shop there for coats and dresses, not for shirts or leggings.
I think Old Navy runs smaller than Carter's. I feel like the tops are tighter through the upper arms/shoulders compared to Carter's of the same size. I wonder why everyone thinks something different? Does it depend on the size range? We are at 2T - 3T currently.

The shirts, in particular, are awful - very short, even when wide enough. I have tall boys and once they stop wearing onesies, I don't shop at ON any more. I do love ON onesies (the rest of the baby clothes, not so much). Gap fits true to size, IMO. Carter's is fine, but usually not my taste (too wordy and dinosaur-y).

I just bought some stuff for the future and can tell you that the 12 month and 18month shirts are the same size in the shoulders, the 18 month is just a little longer.
I was going to say they run smaller than Carter's. I just bought DD a pair of leggings there in the 18-24m size, even though she's mostly still in 12m Carter's stuff.
