DH and I like to get takeout at a local favorite little restaurant. We usually get lunch. I never know if I am supposed to tip or not when I pick it up. To tip or not to tip-that is the question. What do you do?

When I worked at a restaurant, tipping was rare on pickup orders. It certainly isn't expected unless you've made unusual requests or the order was "rush"

I do. When I was a bartender, we were responsible for to-go orders so I always appreciated tips. I'm somewhat of a heavy tipper in general (unless the service is bad). I love me some good service.

I tip if they sat me with a drink while I waited (only if I got there early or if I just placed the to go order there without calling ahead - not if they're running really behind and I'm waiting because of that)

This. We do. Neither of us have worked in the food service industry, but both of my parents did, and so did my FIL. Our families are just good tippers in general. I did work customer service, though, and totally get how hard it can be. I think they deserve getting tipped.

I tip a dollar or two usually since someone had to box and bag it up.
