I'm sort of mourning the name Ottavia. I love the name Mina and she looks like a Mina (as much a 6 day old can look like anything). Idk, it's just sort of a bland name for me and y'all know I usually don't go for bland.
I agreed with DH that Ottavia seemed like we were trying to hard and despite its blandness Mina was a name that really struck both of us when we heard it years ago. We just never found anything in the middle.
Ugh.
For the record I think I had Franca regrets a week after we named her too.
If it helps, I love the name Mina. I've never met a Mina before in my life! Also, as a teacher, I've never had a student named Mina before either. So it's still a unique and beautiful name!
I think it's great. The best of both worlds for me is when a name is simple and also unique. I do know a Mina, but she's the only one I've ever met or heard of with that name.
Take this from someone who often gets asked to say my name again and to spell it but the spelling doesn't look like it sounds (in English).
Awe....I had name regret for DD3. I hate that. My DD1 is named Wilhelmina after DHs grandma & he wanted to call her Mina like his Grandma. But it rhymed with my nickname so I vetoed it. It's super cute & I don't know any little ones named that. I chose to combine 2 Wilhelmina nicknames...Willa (my fav but rhymes with out last name) & Minnie into Winnie. I'm sure people think its short for Winifred & not Wilhelmina but I don't care. She's the only Winnie I've heard of under 50. I think Mina is cute & unique too
I adore Mina! I like plain simple and to the point without being overkilled.
I think every mom has name regrets. My mom is still sad she never had a Laura. I love Ruby and it totally fits but sometimes I feel like I should've fought for Amy or Elizabeth harder. She was born just when old lady names were becoming cool and then it exploded shortly after. I feel like I hit a trend I didn't intend to and she'll end up in a class with 25 other old ladies...lol. Totally irrational I know.
I really wanted to name my daughter Olive. DH hated Olive, so we compromised and entertained Olivia (and Iw as secretly planning on calling her Olive). The circumstances of her coming into our lives were such that there really was no question that we would name her after my sister - so Olive Olivia became Kathleen Olivia. And TBH we feel the same as you - she really seems like a Kate rather than an Olive... but I still pine for the name Olive.
Do you pronounce her name with a long or short i? I really love the name Mina (I've usually heard it pronounced Meena). And I love that you call your car winnie cooper. i have a subaru and I call it the scoobie-roo
I thought Mena was the same, but I guess the correct pronunciation for that is Meh-na.
I love the name Olive!
My sister really wanted us to name her Vivian. She has 3 boys and wishes she could have used it.
I love the name Mina! My grandma was Vivian and my brother named his daughter Vivienne after grandma and I love it. Grandma was gone by the time Vivy was born so it is such a beautiful tribute.
