When I was at the mall walking by Claire's I saw a tiny baby about to get her ears pierced. It was so sad looking. The baby was maybe 2 months old at the very most, but probably closer to one month. The dad was holding her and swaying her as the lady was cleaning the supplies and piercing gun. I had to high tail it out of there because I didn't want to hear the crying.
What the hell. Most places wont do it on babies that young, I wonder if the worker was going against company policy. (FTR I'm not against piercing baby ears, but not that young and preferably at the doctors office)
I don't think kids should get piercings until they are old enough to take care of them. Dd wanted her ears pierce as a young child and we told her when she was mature enough and that would probably be about 13. At 10 she was sver mature and responsible so we went to the mall and had them done. I personally do not like seeing little kids with their ears pierced but that's a personal preference thing.
My friend got her daughter's ears pierced at 5 months, and I went with her. She cried for like 2 minutes and then forgot it happened (after we gave her Sophie). But 2 months is waaaay young

I have never ever heard of pedi pierces until these boards. It's just not...medical?
The other night H recited the list of about 8 girls at school who have their ears pierced and asked, at a few days shy of 4, if she could have them. We told her she can when she is older. She is way too dramatic for that right now. I'm not adding cleaning her ears to my to do list.

I think it's weird that a pedi office would offer that service. I just can't imagine calling them to ask if they can pierce my kids ears. I talked my sister out of getting my niece's ears piereced as a baby.

I guess I just never thought of a store in a mall piercing a baby's ears. I had mine pierced as a baby and obviously I don't remember it at all, it was just not a sight I was expecting to see. And why does Claire's put the piercing chair in the front of their store for all of the people passing by to see?

My mom had mine done at 6 Weeks old. I'm glad she did since I turned into a huge needle-phobe. We decided to wait for Mel and take her when she is older. Part of me would love to do it when she cannot remember, but dh was not loving the idea. Our pedi does it in office after 6 months.

I totally get the sterility part of the pedi's office but is piercing a one week seminar in med school? An elective? What else are they allowed to pierce? :-p
My friend posted pictures on FB of her daughter getting her ears pierced at the mall a few days ago. The day she turned 5 months old. I just don't think that a child should get their ears pierced until they're old enough to ask for it.

I had my ears pierced as a baby. When I was 2 I figured out how to take my earring out and put them in my baby dolls' ears, according to my mother. The day she saw me doing that was the day they came out. I got them re pierced for kindergarten when I asked for earrings after looking at my mom's Avon catalog.
To each his own. It's NMS to piece ear until they can ask and take care of them, but I'm not a girly dressy kind of person. I got mine done in 4th grade. I do think the little ones should be done by a Dr though
I think baby piercing is often a cultural thing. And getting them pierced early is better than in toddlerhood. I don't know about taking a baby to Claire's though.
