We're getting a new roof. The old one has been off for all of ONE day, and the motherfarking roof rats are in my house. We had a rat proofing service and haven't had anything for 2 or 3 years. Now DH is all "we're DIYing this time" and I'm all "eff that, I'm calling the rat guy TOMORROW." We may have to arm wrestle for it, and that might not go so well for DH today. The thought of rats gives me the fight-or-flight strength of three of me. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Get the professionals in for sure! Some of our outbuildings on our farm have rat issues because of feed storage and there is no DIY fix that compares to what the experts can do much safer and in half the time. It costs more for sure, but it's done, over and done right.
I fear very little in the creature world, but rats are the one thing I wouldn't screw with ever.
Oh totally. His "DIY" approach last time involved trapping 50+ in our unfinished basement until I finally just called and had the thing sealed up for $500. TRAPPING ALONE DOES NOT WORK, DH. MORE OF THEM JUST COME IN. STOP BEING SO FUCKING CHEAP.
Hah, nah. Good plan. Actually, I'll probably wait until the roof is finished (Tues. I'm guessing). They can't seal it up until that is finished anyway. Until then, perhaps a hotel, LOL.
I actually felt physically ill when I read how many he trapped. Uhhhh...after like 5, wouldn't your "common sense" feeling kick in. OMG. Yuck yuck yuck.
Nope, not when you're that cheap. This happened while I was gone for Christmas one year, and he didn't tell me about it until I got back. Rat guy was out the next week. Sometimes having a thrify DH is good (no thousands spent on gaming equipment and he likes going to the salvage yards with me), but sometimes it's a real PITA.
Our neighborhood is very old, and everyone has problems with it at one time or another, so it sort of comes with the territory. Old houses, yea! But still, this is not the time for a DIY solution, DH. Anyway, we're just not talking about it now, and I'll be calling on Tues. I might even be able to set up an appointment for Friday, since I telecommute then and DH won't be here. I handle the finances, so what DH doesn't know won't hurt him. He can just set his little traps to his heart's content.
Yuck. Ick. 50 rats? That's intense. Even for a barnyard, muchless a house. And yeah, trapping them is pretty much worthless..they always come back! They know where the food/warmth/cozy home is! Rats are hard too. There's never just one..or a few...for that matter. I'd call and get that taken care of! Deal with H later.
