On BCP, my periods were usually 2-3 days, then a day of spotting. After stopping BCP, they quickly regulated to 3-4 days of bleeding, a day or two of spotting. Wonderful.
Here's the issue. After my m/c and D&C this summer, they've changed. I now usually spot 1 day, bleed 2 days, nothing/spot, then bleed a day, then at least 4 days of spotting. It's getting more drawn out. I'm currently on day 12 total of my period, still spotting and passing some clots, especially when I use the restroom (sorry). AND now I have an almost positive OPK. How possible is it to get pregnant when I'm still bleeding?
I talked with my OBGYN and she basically just said - periods change after a pregnancy. I have an appointment to star seeing the RE this week, but I'm just curious if anyone else has had this issue or may have some ideas as to what's going on. Or maybe my body is just fucking with me for fun now?
<disclaimer> not a doctor, not a medical professional, I only do guesswork </disclaimer> You might not personally prefer it, but you can have sex while you're still bleeding and get pregnant. It takes the fertilized ovum about 5 days to travel down your ovarian tube to your uterus. In those 5 days a lot can change. I think new endometrium basically grows in from the botton, if that makes sense to you, so you're likely growing new endometrium and that pushes the old one which you shed during your period away bit by bit. By the time a fertilized ovum (by then embryo, hopefully!) reaches your uterus and wants to implant, your new endometrium should be ready to go.
What it sounds like, but I have no idea if that's how it works, is that your unused endometrium just doesn't shed very well by itself after the luteal phase has ended. So it takes pressure (you using the bathroom) to really let go of the uterus very well, thus clots when you go to the bathroom.
If you have a +opk (or are close to that) I would just get busy, have lots of sex (or as much as you think is appropriate to give you the best chances of pregnancy) and hope that egg gets fertilized.
