Guidlines to hanging art?

I know I saw it somewhere - I don't have time to dig - what are the generally accepted rules for hanging art? ie from the center of the piece to the floor or what have you?

Art should be hung eye level-ish, (average person eye level), taking into consideration how it is viewed. Art in an entry is viewed from from standing, but dining/living room art is viewed most often from a seated position.

Apartment therapy says 57", but I think that is too low and I'm relatively short so I usually do 59"

I think the acceptable height is usually center of piece should be 5 feet from the ground - this is about "eye level" for most average-height people.
