He is a BIG boy - but his weight is outpacing his height a bit which concerns the pedi (given that DH and I are both very obese). He was EBF until 6m and is now on BM and solids. He keeps gaining. He did just start to really crawl well this past month and he isn't walking yet - so I know he will start to slow his gain soon, but not until he is walking.
Pedi asked about his feeding and once we said 20oz BM plus self-fed solids he backed off a little - but still wants to make sure we aren't overfeeding. I KNOW we aren't.
I am not concerned - DD was in the 95%+ group on weight (24 pounds at 12m) and she is only 28 pounds now 2.5 years - closer to 50%. She is also very tall for her age at over 37".
I just hate the doubt. The last thing we want is to have obese kids. DH and I have struggled our whole lives and we are trying really hard to not mess up our kids too.

You need to trust yourself. You know you aren't over feeding him so there's nothing to cut back on. He's probably following the same pattern as his sister. Try not to worry!
You know you are not overfeeding and as far as I know, your older child is pretty skinny, right? Did/do you do anything different for her? Probably not. T might just be genetically predisposed to being a bigger boy. I'm sure as he becomes active and starts moving around he'll thin out a bit. If you are committed to feeding him healthy foods and keeping him in sports and other activities, he will not be an obese child.
I do understand your worry, but I also know of several obese parents who have extremely normal sized children. I think, unfortunately (it's the case with me) many of us slack off with our own eating habits, but are committed to keeping our children healthy and active.
I was 99% for weight (like 31 lbs) as a child up until 12 months then between 12 months and 2 years I didn't gain a pound. Then as an older child I was as skinny as can be. So try not to worry!
I will add, I doubt your pedi would have mentioned his weight if you guys weren't overweight. Unfortunately kids with overweight parents are more likely to be overweight. So that is probably the only reason he mentioned it, not that there is anything wrong with his weight right now. So do try not to worry, when he starts moving he will get smaller like his sister.

This is basically what Adele did. She was a chunker until she walked, then she slimmed down and is currently tall and skinny - I can count her ribs and vertebrae.
I remember a friends baby, at 6 months she weighed 25 pounds. She was enormously fat. And she had never had anything but breastmilk. The mom said the pedi was always so skeptical... "are you SURE she's only had BM" etc. Neither of the parents were overweight. I think some babies are just big. I don't know if a baby this young could actually be "over fed" even if on formula and spoon fed purees. Because, they tell you how much they want. And the food is all just what they need (unless you are pureeing donuts and spoonfeeding that ha)
I think that overweight kids/overweight parents is probably more behavioural than genetic. Though I assume there is some genetic component, I would assume the vast majority of this influence is behavioural,no?

I don't think obesity connections are simply behavioral. There is a reason I could eat exactly what my friends ate and I was plus size while they were thin - I think some peoples' metabolisms and body makeup give them a propensity towards being overweight and that plus bad habits can allow things to get out of control quickly. It isn't all behavioral, but it is a big part of the problem. Genetics play a part.
Anyways, my kids are offered a variety of healthy foods. Tommy eats veggies, fruits, lean meats, some cheese, and is just starting yogurt. He had low iron levels at 6m, so he gets 3 TBSP of baby cereal mixed with 3oz BM daily with fruit for breakfast. He takes maybe 20oz of BM a day.
I will look for a pic. I don't have easy access to them at work. There is a pic of them in the tub on the Chunky baby thread...but I can't find it.

I love his chub! I agree with PC that it is their job to question. I think we all know how diligent you are to feeding your kiddos healthy meals. He's just a big boy and like you said, he just started crawling. Once he's walking around and climbing on stuff, he probably model his sister. I'm sorry they made you kinda second guess yourself. FWIW, I think you do a fantastic job.
Eh, from one momma with a huge 28lb baby to another (C might really be like 26-27lbs) I wouldn't be concerned. My pedi LOVES his insane growth (5.8 at birth) and said she expects babies like C to end up over the 100% and then steadily leveling out. Everything that has happened so far in terms of his growth and development she said would happen and it really has. I think there are all types of normal--not just one standard normal. I wish doctors wouldn't side eye big babies because I think it is way too early to overfeed a baby or anything of that nature.

Wow - that is great growth!
Tommy started at 11 pounds, so to me it just doesn't seem so drastic for him to be approaching 30 pounds by a year. We'll see what happens from here. I think it will all depend on when he starts walking. I think we are about 2 months away from that at least. He pulls up and cruises, but doesn't have the balance to stand alone yet.

Yep, he has just grown and grown and grown. I was supposed to bring him Friday for his 9m appointment but was preoccupied with my dad. I'll bring him this Wed. At 6m he was about 23lb. He's gained about 3lbs a month though I do think it has slowed down. My husband and I were both BIG babies too. I'm a pretty little person at this point but as a baby I was huge and grew quickly so I don't ever think twice about his size. He doesn't have interest in pulling up, cruising, or crawling but I'm not concerned at this point. I think he had a set back, slightly with his meds, but being bigger doesn't help (but he's healthy, so all in time, right?). I bet that your LO will level out rather quickly once he starts walking and might not even gain for awhile! I talked to one mom of a "big baby" who leveled out and didn't gain for 8 months! It was no concern to the doctor because he grew quickly in the beginning.
BTW: That picture is super cute. I love the rolls and I can't wait for C to have a little brother or sister. SO fun to have someone else to grow with!

He is so cute!
I'm sorry you felt your parenting was being questioned. At this age continuing to offer healthy foods and feed on demand, as you know, is all you can do. If he struggles with his weight later in life it won't be because of his diet months 1-9.
