What things have you noticed that are being done again and again in the blog world, but you haven't really seen in your neighborhood/real life houses that you visit?
-----------
I think ikat fabric and mismatched nurseries are so very common in the blog world, but I haven't seen anyone use them in a house really.
Also turquoise in the kitchen - I love it in the blog world, but haven't seen anyone do it in reality. I'm so tempted, though since we'll tear out our cabinets in about 4 years when we redo the kitchen anyway.
The last thing is painted staircases. I really want to do it for our basement stairs (old-school linoleum now), but I'm hesitant since I haven't walked on one in real life and I'm afraid it will be slippery. Anyone done this?

what do you mean by mismatched nurseries?
There are very few blog trends that I've seen in real life. My friends and family aren't super trendy with their decor. I did get my hooked on theFoundary, so she's got an assortment of slightly trendy stuff. I think she got a sunburst mirror a while ago? Which at this point is so far past it's peak that I'm not sure you can call it trendy anymore.
Well styled/high end/high impact light fixtures are a big one. Everyone I know has them all pretty much within the same variation of whatever is in a lineup at Lowe's.
Painting everything you own.
Any of the "trendy" patterns.
I live in a land of oak rooster kitchens and farm wallpaper borders where the internet is for checking market/weather reports, not blogging. While it's not me to have a house full of it, I don't find anything "wrong" or "bad" or "tacky" about it either. There's just no blogs with that theme..lol.

EVERYTHING! my friends and family decorate in beige. all beige, but not cute, sort of like they go to 1 store and decorate from the items that coordinate on that one day and that day only.

our stairs to the basement are painted and were when we bought the house almost 6 years ago now. i am wanting to update them, as they are just a boring grey right now. they aren't really slippery, but i will likely add sand to whatever we paint the step portion (as opposed to the risers) to even better ensure it.
grey. no one else has grey walls and people always comment on how lovely and fresh it looks in my house. yet h&g laments that it is so overdone :-P
and basically everything else. i have stylish friends, but it's what i call suberban chic - earthtones and warm colours, espresso furniture, granite and stainless kitchens. things that i was seeing on blogs 5 years ago.
