How did you transition from purees to more solid food? Did you give half and half? When did you give more solid food? (n/a if you did BLw) At that point, how often were you giving milk?
Or just tell me a story about your approach to solids. Layla is currently never satisfied. She eats 3 ice cubes at lunch and dinner and then looks at me for more so I give her a mummum or banana to chew on. Also, today, we were out so I could only give her milk and she didnt drink more than an ounce over 3 hrs. As soon as we got home she chowed down on her purees. As if she was holding out for them However, she still doesnt get excited for cereal (stopped oatmeal and now she has wheat with fruit which is better but not loved)
We do BLW. We started at 6 mos. kiddo spent most of the first month or two feeding the dog or chewing and then spitting most of what was on her tray. Around 8 mos she started going to town. Yesterday for lunch she ate a cheese stick, 1/2 c of frozen mixed veggies and 1/2 c of cut up grapes. Where she used to bf 7-8x a day, she's now down to about 5 and the sessions are sometimes very short. I have no idea when she'll fully transition, but I'd guess that's she's now doing half solids and half milk. She's 9.5 mos now.

One other thing. Do you think sitting in a high chair is important? (or that tyoe of chair) we were doing bumbo but she always arches out so now, I feed her sitting on the floor. Bad?

Madison will be 10 months next week. She rarely eats purees at this point and is mostly all on table food. She started favoring finger foods around the 8 month mark so we slowly started incorporating chunks of food (steamed veggies, string cheese, soft fruits, strips of chicken, etc) around that point. The only time she gets a puree of some kind is when I'm too lazy to cook something separate just for her (ie when the rest of us are eating pizza or fast food that I don't want her to eat) since I still have a bit of a freezer stash that I need to use up. She does like yogurt though and eats that once every other day or so.
The amount of formula she drinks varies most days. Some days she drinks around 20 oz and other days she drinks closer to 30. It all depends on her mood.
Q is really into solids right now - yesterday's dinner was 2oz of cheddar cheese, corn and a tortilla. She'll eat a full banana after any puree that we give her. Most meals are about half and half - she LOVES yogurt and can't feed herself so we do that and then fruit/veggie with cereal in it. She probably only takes about 12-15oz of BM a day.
I'm so glad you asked this because I need help too! How old are everyone's babies? I've been wanting to branch out more from purees but none of my kiddos have any teeth-probably a stupid question but does that matter? I'd like to do some blw too but I'm not sure what to give them. Only my son will hold his bottle. We haven't introduced the sippy cup yet but will soon.

We do BLW. Started at 6 months. I don't think DS really cared about solids for the first month. However, he hit 7 months now all of the sudden he gets really excited about eating. He even ate spaghetti the other night!
He only gets one solid meal during the week because I haven't started him on solids at daycare yet. I am probably going to transition to that later this month.
ETA: Has no teeth. Somehow he managed to eat an entire waffle stick the other day.
I'm just glad to hear there are other babies with no teeth. lol.
Vivi mostly eats purees still, but I have started offering some other things, like strips of red bell peppers, etc. She mostly just sucks on them now, but I've noticed that lately she is actually eating some too. I think I'll just keep slowly offering more things like that and gradually transition to full table foods.
I have no advice since DS is 7.5 months and is still eating purees. He has had mum mums and cheerios but no other finger foods yet. I want to start giving him more so I am curious about what others are doing.
One other thing. Do you think sitting in a high chair is important? (or that tyoe of chair) we were doing bumbo but she always arches out so now, I feed her sitting on the floor. Bad?
I think a chair with a tray or that attaches to the table is helpful. The tray on the high chair has been pretty key for us to encourage finger foods.
My 11 month old gets both. She is into throwing right now, so with ourees I can make sure she is getting some. Last night for dinner she had mac and cheese that she fed herself, and a puree of peas, apples and mango.
She is having grapes and cheerios for breakfast.
Ditto. When DS is teething, he refuses everything so we had to go to the purees in a pouch to get him to eat any type of solids. Thankfully, he is now back into table food again. It's been hit or miss with him since his teeth keep coming in batches. Poor baby.
Thanks for posting this, I'm curious about it too. My kid is 4.5 months and we don't plan to start solids until at least 6 months. I'm considering doing BLW but don't know the point of it so I still need to look into it.
I love BLW. The point is basically that there is no reason for babies (assuming you don't start at 4 months) to eat purees. There is no science behind it. Since the kiddos are capable of feeding themselves might as well make life easier on everyone and let them do it.
Plus, this way you don't have to make special meals they can just eat what you eat. It supposedly helps kids to be less picky eaters and decreases the rate of obesity (becuase the kid monitors their own food intake). I don't know if there is any science to back any of that up either though.
BLW is also just a recent trendy name. Parents have been feeding their kids finger foods first for centuries. This is the way my parents fed me when I was a baby.
