First off, I know HD blinds are expensive. Unfortunately I don't know how expensive because apparently you can't find out online.
I have a lady coming to my house next week to price some blinds. I just realized Costco does this too, so I also scheduled them to come out.
I get they are going up be the same product. Are they going to be the same price? Is it worth canceling one of the appt? (Lady said she would give 5% discount).Am I going to be wasting two mornings since they will both be do expensive I won't buy them?
How expensive depends how big your windows are and what type of blinds you want. I recently got custom-measured cellular cordless blinds for a bedroom. The HD price was about 3x more than the generic JC Penney brand. That said, the quality seems to be far lower (I had HD blinds at my last house). But, they work and were affordable, so I'm probably going to get the JCP ones for the other bedroom too.
If money wasn't an option I'd go with the HD ones, though, because I really can tell a difference in the quality.
Yes there will be a cost difference between HD, other Hunter Douglas suppliers (Budget Blinds, window design show rooms, etc.), and Costco on not only the products but also the labor if you're getting them installed. It's a huge pain because you have to get so many quotes! My issue is that we want to install them ourselves so I don't want to deal with the hassle of them insisting they need to come to my home to measure windows. I'm a freakin engineer I think I can use a tape measure! (You just need to remember to measure in multiple locations down and across the window since nothing is ever square.)
Costco is probably going to be your best bet. I haven't gotten a quote on blinds from them but their California Closets and Clopay garage doors were 30% off through Costco. Their starting base price is sometimes more though.
I'm working on getting window treatment quotes and I love Hunter Douglas products but they don't have any woven wood shades that match our cherry trim color. Plus if we're paying that much for blinds I want cordless blinds and Hunter Douglas doesn't carry woven woods in cordless (every other line has that option though).
Seriously though why do decent looking shades cost so much?! There isn't a lot to them it's not like this is rocket science. The Hunter Douglas quotes I got for regular corded shades on a small 3'x4' window were $220-330 a piece! I'm looking at DIYing some fabric roman shades now instead but I want them to be cordless so it's not going to be easy.
