Took doggums in for her check-up and she has somehow gained 10 pounds in 6 months... she's now up to 88 pounds! Vet totally didn't believe me when I said she only gets the recommended amount of dog food and the occasional treat.
Guess I'm not the only one in the house that's gonna be on an eating plan... 8-D

My dogs are the opposite. THey've lost so much since I've had babies.
Awww! Do they just eat less or do the kids keep them hopping? Shelby went off her food for a bit after A was born, but recovered by about the third month. Obviously

I feed them the same and they ingest the same. I don't know why they are so thin. I'm talking 5lbs thinner when they only weighed 12-15lbs to begin with. Vet wasn't concerned at all. Which is odd.

Puck gained weight since the LO came. He was 25 lbs and now he is 28. For a dog his size, that is a big amount. I am pretty sure it was a combination of less exercise and more food that flies off of the high chair. We cut back his food a little bit and it seems to have helped.
our dog is fatter. Jameson feeds her all sorts of crap, and she eats anything that falls on the ground too. Pre-kids I was always SO specific of her only getting her special grain free food and nothing else, but now I just don't care. Plus it keeps the house cleaner We went on vacation in September sans dog and I was appalled at the amount of food crumbs that were everywhere.
Our dogs are the same as they live outside so aren't too affected by A's arrival. But our cat did lose weight when A was born. He seems to have recovered now but I'm guessing he'll lose weight again when A starts walking and chasing him more.
Nannerl - are you sure it's not jsut a winter thing? Like putting on extra weight in the cold to keep warm?!
I sort of suggested that, but the vet was pretty sure she is just overweight. She emphasized that it isn't critical yet, but we need to make an effort to get her weight down for her sake to keep the strain off her joints long-term. She isn't getting the same amount of exercise as she was before A came, but she still has an hour long walk every day with me and the kiddo. We don't allow her to cavort inside because even at her optimal weight she's still over 65 pounds, and that's a whole lot of dog to be acting goofy around a baby. We just need to adjust the food, I think!
You have an Anatolian right? If so I'm going to side eye your vet because 80lbs is still on the small side. Very small side in fact. Anna is 96 and still growing. I'd be more concerened with how lean/fat she is, rather than the scale. (If I'm remembering wrong just ignore me. Also I don't remember how old your pup is)
Our dog (German Shepherd) weighed around 88 lbs when we lived in our house. He was such a healthy weight, and actually quite lean. We had to move to an apartment, so his exercise has cut down significantly. He now weighs 100lbs. LOL. He gained around 10lbs!!! They weren't mad, but said we had to cut down his food intake since he's not exercising like he was. Whoops!

Hahaha, my dogs have gotten so fat too. My English bulldog has to weigh like 90lbs now. He gained a ton when A was first born because he kept eating both bowls of dog food that I put out for each of them, and I didn't know it. Meanwhile, my American bully kept getting so, so pissed off at us, and I couldn't figure out why. It was because his brother was eating all his damn food. Now they both eat tables scraps, because A thinks it's hysterical to try and feed them from her high chair.

Hahaha, Camden does that too. The dog permanently hangs out by his highchair during mealtimes now.

She is an Anatolian (well, a mix) and you are right, she is on the small side for her breed. Vet was concerned because there is less definition over her ribs and her "waist" is filling in-- in other words, she's getting puffy. She's only 2 1/2 years, but she is just not getting the same amount of exercise that she was. 96... wow! Anna is gonna be a big un!
