Places ban them? I guess they aren't aware they are dogs?? It's like people, not all are African Americans/blacks/politically correct term are gangsters. Not all pitts are dangerous.
Around here most cities require you to get a license to own them. Unfortunately if they aren't raised right that can be very dangerous, whereas say a miniature corgi or shitzu isn't going to kill you if they attack.

Yes, but that could be said about any medium to large breed dog. A freaking yellow lab could also kill you.
What channel. What is it called? I would love to watch it.
I agree. It is so sick that cities just ban them. It is also sick how they are euthanized much more than other dogs at shelters.
People are ignorant. I would adopt 7597473827 more pit bulls if we had the space. Breaks my heart
We would get another one in a heart beat if we had the room. We just don't. It was so sad when we rescued Zoey. The shelter she was at had a pit bull section where all of the other bully type breeds were kept in an entirely different area. While she was on her 5 day hold after dh found her, I visited her every day and so many people just completely over looked that area.

A license to own them?!? Jeez. Pit bulls are like any other task oriented dogs- their driving force is to please and protect. However, unlike many other breeds, they are incredibly strong- which is why crappy owners train them to fight and be violent. It isn't their natural disposition. Pit bulls who have never been exposed to cruelty will NOT attack and kill someone. The instances (and yes, there have been many) where this has happened are a result of the abuse the dogs have faced and an example of just how easy to train they are, even if the acts they are trained to carry out are extreme.

Its on netflix instant, "beyond the myth". Denver, Cincinnati, and Miami (so far we are only halfway through) ban pit bulls. And I do mean pit bulls as they just look at the physical characteristics of the dogs and not their bloodlines. I agree it is discrimination akin to saying all Mexicans are drug dealers (obviously they're not). This is making me angry.

I know. A lot of the issues are people who want a more attack dog are more likely to get a pit bull and train them to do that due to their reputation. I'm also slightly bias because my corgi was attacked by a pit bull with his owner right there.

It's terrible, but she is so lucky you guys found her! Our 2 were born in a shelter and the only two of the litter left after many months. Henry, our male, was the runt. I literally cried when we went to look because we were only meant to get one dog, but I wouldn't leave without Henry too. I didn't want him to be left alone after we took Mona home. One day we'll have space for more, I just keep telling myself that!

I'm sorry.
That dog should have been on a leash, especially because dog aggression can occur within the pit bull breeds. However, dog aggression does not equal human aggression.

it was on a leash. It took off and pulled its male owner face first into the sidewalk. He was able to get the dog under control and we saw him the next day and the dog had a full body harness thing and he was able to control it.

The shelters make me so sad. My MIL is in rescue and, honestly, I had to hide her from my news feed because it's too sad.
This is my Lilly at the shelter (10 months old, pregnant, and horribly abused. She was terrified of everything) and then again a couple summers ago (I did this a while ago). Not all dogs are fucked up forever, luckily. She is the toy/clothing eater, though.
I will admit I am not a fan of pit bulls, I will cross the street when I see one. There have been four attacks in my city in the past two weeks the most recent being last night. Cabot has been bit by one before. The entire province of Ontario has banned pit bulls. I know other dogs can attack but there is just something about that breed that scares me.

I hate the pit hate. All apartments here don't allow them. I once found a puppy pit running around my parents neighborhood. He was so scared and so sweet. Not knowing what to so I went to my vet and asked what I should do. They scanned him for a chip with no luck. So then they told me no matter where we would have taken him here in town, they would have just put him down.
So we just released him back into the neighborhood hoping he'd find his way home. :/

They are a very strong breed and without knowing them they can seem intimidating. No doubt there. But as an owner of very aggressive dogs, an Aussie and a chihuahua mix that have both drawn blood on a few too many occasions. You just never know if any dog is sweet or mean.

While there is no BSL here, I do know that some insurance companies (home/renters/thekindlandlordshave) will not cover you if you have a bully breed. I have several friends who have been denied coverage. And several friends that have been couch-surfing trying to find a landlord who will allow them. Them meaning pitbulls, not dogs.

We had difficulty finding an apartment that would allow our dogs. We had to have the dogs meet the building manager prior to them giving us the lease. They melted his heart instantly.

But in these cases, it wasn't up to the landlord. It was the landlord's insurance that didn't allow dogs.

You aren't allowed to have one in Denver city limits.
This was addressed in the documentary. The statistics they showed about how many dogs were euthanised was staggering. In Denver there were 6 times as manydog bites reported than in a neighboring town half the size that does allow Pitt bulls.
