and then she relentlessly keeps defending it, getting nastier and nastier each time. Apparently we're all selfish and spoiled for wanting babies, which we apparently don't need.

I think people forget that humans are animals, and not only do we want to have children for human emotional reasons, but there is also a biological drive to have children. To not be able to fulfill that is not a minor inconvenience - its life altering for many people. That's not to say that I think its cool to fundraise via FB, but some compassion would be nice.
(I'm a biologist, so I often think of things this way.)
I wanted to respond, but then I realized that would just propel me into a big internet fight which would put me in an even more losy mood. If you've never been through IF then you have no idea what it's like so STFU

Nicely put. The while want/need debate.....I much prefer to see it like the "biological drive" as you say.
What the fuck is wrong with some of them!? Bronx - aren't you a reg over there? I mean, there's being MM and then there's THAT!
JFC.
I am and I just lost respect for some other regs. And what about the comment that we have to be fair to people who don't want kids so saving up for a new degree is the same as IVF? :-|
I don't think she was being sarcastic about moving out of state. This has actually been suggested to me a number of times as a option. Because it is that easy.
Ok, I just retread parts and WTF is up w/ the post saying that IF should have been talked about before TTC? We can talk about the issues we have until we are blue in the face, but that doesn't change anything we are dealing with, especially the cost.
Haven't and don't want to read the post, as I'm sure it'll make me stabby, but don't those idiots realize what the cost of having a child are? I know enough ladies on there have more than 1. That's not very MM either. The cost of fertility treatment is absolutely nothing compared to the cost of raising a child.
Sure, it's crazy expensive and at some point you have to decide if you can still afford it, but from what I read on here and in other places, it's always a difficult decision taking your whole life and the future of possible current and future family members into consideration. A lot different than - hey, let's buy a Bentley.

Hi Guys. its Noelcallum. I changed my name for the new board FYI. Yeah It kind of pissed me off reading that thread especially so many people commenting that had kids and got pg after a few cycles. How can you possibly know what it's like if you haven't been there. I did comment on the thread but not sure if the OP got back to me - the way she said it, it wasn't a charity handout thing, the couple are selling something to make money for IVF - how different is that from a yard sale?
I think the worst part, IMO, is this incredible need for some of them (papercherri I think her name is, for starters) to keep pointing out how *compassionate!* they are, and how they "Get it!" and are just trying to save "Infertiles" from ruining their lives by hiding in the bathrooms with boxes full of pregnancy tests.
Where is said thread on the main board or mmm? I haven't see. It but haven't been on much- is it still up or DD?
It's there. It's called "MM or WTMF...." or something like that.
Starts off with the OP saying that a Facebook friend is posting the link to a fundraiser for IVF txts. The IF couple is running the fundraiser themselves. The question is, is this tacky or ok.
Que a bunch of responses like, "This isn't a medical emergency!" and "Tacky!" before you get to the "A baby is a selfish want, not a need," and "Well, I want a Bentley but we don't always get what we want."
Fucking obnoxious, but I suspect that the day is going to be spent ragging on the poster who flaked on her SS gift rather than in that thread. Which is probably for the best. lol.

Lovely, I found and read it. I'll make sure to remind MH just how selfish he is tonight for still wanting a child despite a chromosomal micro-deletion. I'm sure that will go over real well. Good thing he has a therapy appointment tomorrow night. People truly are fucking obnoxious.
Don't let IF bring you down, yo. Pull your uterus up by its bootstraps. What a bunch of selfish bitches you all are.
I kid, of course....
I would never ask anyone to donate to our baby-making cause. I probably wouldn't give money to anyone else either. I make no judgements in either situation though. If you don't like it, don't donate!
Like so many other situations in life, I have to tell myself that until you have experienced IF, you just don't understand. In addition to what your body goes through, it really does crazy things to your mind. I wish wish WISH I could have the naive logic of some of those ladies. They are so lucky that they don't understand, and you'll waste your breath trying to make them. I use this line often, for IF, or any unfortunate situation "That is an ignorant, offensive, shittyass thing to say" and leave it at that.
