What do I do with 10ft ceilings? I feel like I'm going to need some giant art or something to fill up all that wall space. Do I hang my usual, smaller art at eye level and say screw it about the massive amounts of emptiness above?
Any ideas? I'm accepting any and all options, because I'm just lost. The cheaper the option, the better - we've got enough actual reno-related things to spend the big bucks on.
Do a happy dance and enjoy them? 10 foot ceilings are awesome! I think most decor magazines feature rooms with higher ceilings, so that will probably help. You could also add a picture rail a foot or so down from the top to add visual interest if you wanted to.
You will love them! I have 9 ft ceilings (except my great room which is 19 ft) and I hang almost all of my art at regular levels. Don't feel like you need to fill the entire space. Also, pick your wall art carefully. I find that larger items look better. (i.e. an 8X10 picture isn't going to work inless it's part of a larger collage)
Don't do anything differently just use taller window treatments and in some cases taller art. Editing your decor to have blank space (or using the same decor but bigger wall space) is good.

Thanks ladies! I'm really intimidated by that extra two feet. And knowing that I'm going to have to make or buy all new drapery isn't really helping either. :S I get the feeling that I'm going to be staring at a blank canvas for a LOooong time.

I have vaulted ceilings. I love them. You can get away with a lot more dramatic colors and bigger furniture pieces with worrying about it feeling claustrophobic.
My ceilings are higher to..9ft I think. I didn't do anything different. Hung my curtains higher and that's about all. You really don't notice after awhile at all.
I have to disagree with some others who are saying not to do anything different. When I lived with my brother in his Victorian and had 10' ceilings my low bed sans headboard and footboard and minimalist furniture looked silly. Like dollhouse furniture. I think you will be able to tell when something is off. The extra space and airiness allows you to pick more dramatic furniture and use dark colors (if you want to). For example, in the pic that sbp posted you can see that her dining set is very dark and the hutch is quite tall but none of this overwhelms the room because of the high ceilings.

JC Penny carries stock drapery panels that can accomodate 9 and 10 foot ceilings. In most stores they only carry 86" but online they have a lot of selections that go to 10 feet. The ones in my bedroom are 9 foot, floor to ceiling and they were $70/panel. The Cindy Crawford line, especially seems to be more contemporary in their fabrics.
Ikea also sells really long curtains. This was very helpful in grad school when we were all renting apartments in old Victorians on really tight budgets!

I just meant not to hang pictures too high to view comfortably.
I do agree that scale needs to be considered, but it is funny that you mentioned living in a Victorian and your furniture looking like dollhouse furniture, since Victorian furniture seems to either be massive or very dainty. Apparently they had both to keep it balanced.lol
