Girlfriend you are so close! Most people don't get to experience the awesomeness of Ikea in their lifetime, and here you get to have one in your hometown. The nice thing about Ikea, is that they carry the same stuff for AGES. I have some coasters from there that I got as a freshman in college (so, 2002 ish) and they still carry them in store!
I've never really understood why IKEA doesn't do full fledged online ordering. They limit the sale of so many of their popular items to only individuals who live near a store or are willing to travel to one.

They are saying 2014!!! I can't wait. It's still about a hour to the city but that's better than 8 hours. Crate and barrel has some basic white coffee mug for 2.95 too so I think I will stop there when my mom and I are in town on Monday. I stopped at dollar tree very first but they didn't have any. Walmarts were 3.75ea. Just wanting them for some craft projects. Hopefully I can find some soon.

Yeah, this is dumb. I can understand not selling large furniture online, but they could really make a killing with their marketplace items. It's not like it's a building up demand issue, either. Ikea is pretty ubiquitous.
I don't get it either - their furniture is already flat-packed if you buy it at the store, so it wouldn't even be that costly to ship.
I was just there on Tuesday, Sierra, would I have known I would have bought them and sent them to you. :-)
they would have to increase their prices to add services for shipping and returns, more customer service, etc. it's more complex and since people are willing to travel to their stores I'm pretty sure they just don't care. Even better for them, when people come and make a day trip out of it they eat at the cafe, load up on a ton of impulse purchases since they don't know when they will be back, and it's too inconvenient to come back to return anything in the 90 day window. Genius.

I have had the same thoughts. I have had $60 dollar gift card to Ikea for almost a year. I haven't spent it because Ikea is two hours away. I would have spent that and another hundred if I could fully order online.
The last time we made an IKEA trip, the sales associate said they do their shipments into the store by water and they prefer to be on a main water way. Maybe they don't have a good shipping contract?
