I am 30, DH is 34. We started TTC in 10/2011. About a year later we had an SA done and found MFI and went straight to an RE. Our RE opted for us to go into 4 medicated IUI’s w/ clomid- none were successful. We had plans to begin IVF that spring but due to painful cycles that I just couldn’t bear anymore I ended up having lap surgery. During surgery they found several things wrong; my uterus was scarred to my colon, my tubes were twisted and pinned back behind my uterus, found that my left tube was/is completely blocked and they found lots of endometriosis and had to take out my appendix.
After this surgery we went back to the drawing board w/ our RE who let us do 3 more medicated IUI cycles. All failed. So we started the cycle of meds for IVF in Sept for a November retrieval/transfer. We ended up getting 18 eggs, of which 15 fertilized. We transferred two grade 1 embryos on 11/12. We froze 5 that made it to the correct stage. We found out the day before Thanksgiving that I was pregnant, but in the weeks after my numbers were not increasing correctly. At our 6 week ultrasound to look for a heart beat the RE found the embryo had implanted into my right tube (ectopic pregnancy). By this point my HCG levels were over 3000 and the sac was almost 2cmx2cm. I was immediately given the option to take dosages of methotrexate to make my body start breaking everything down or go in for surgery to have it removed. We did 2 separate injections a week apart and after many weeks found out last Friday that it is finally starting to dissolve and my HCG is down to 20. We were told that we cannot try again w/ our frozen embryos for several months and my level is finally at 0. So in the meantime I am just trying to take care of myself (and creepily lurking like a weirdo) until we get the green light. I guess I just got tired of lurking. Feel free to ask me anything! I hope you will have me.
Ok heads up - for some reason the formatting on the new site does not like my phone, it wont let me do exclamation points lol.
Welcome. There should be an exclamation point after that lol. Sorry about your troubles so far. I have endo also, and will be finding out what my tubes look like in the next month or so. I always assumed during IVF they dropped the fertilized egg directly into the uterus in the proper spot to implant, I wasnt aware you could have an ectopic pregnancy from IVF. Shows how much I know about IVF.. I need to start learning more about it, thank you for sharing your story.
I hope you don't have to wait too long for another try. Exclamation point there, too, haha.
Good question. When doing IVF they do put the embryos directly into the uterus by catheter, but the eggs still "shop" around until they find a good place to implant. My RE told me there is only a 1% chance that an ectopic pregnancy can happen from IVF- it is very rare. The tubes should naturally push it out, but for some reason mine didn't

Welcome!! A good friend of mine had a very similar situation to yours and she is also currently waiting for her HSG levels to go back down before her #3 IVF. I hope this happens soon for you!
