WWY list dining set for on Craigslist?

We are selling our home and need to sell our 4 year old dining set purchased from Ashley Furniture.I think we paid around $2200. We have the table, extension, 6 side chairs with leather seats, and hutch. It is in near perfect condition. What should we list at on Craigslist? Here's a pic, it's the La Salle dining collection:

when we listed ours we started at 1200 - but ended up selling it for 500. Same setup (6 chairs, table w/ extension & hutch). I guess it just depends on how badly you need to sell it.

I was also going to say start at $1200. Figure about 50% of retail, but be prepared to lose a lot on this. It's just the way it goes.

A lot depends on your CL/area. What are comparable sets going for?

The most I'd pay for that, around here, is $500. And that only if I loved it and it was in perfect condition.

I would expect something like that in my area to be listed for $800 without the hutch, so $1300 seems like a reasonable price to start at if everything is in great condition. I hope that you get a fair price for it!

Are there any consignment stores in your area? You might be able to get a little bit more that way than on CL. The other good thing about that, is that if they decide to take it on, they're storing it and putting it out on the sales floor--not you.

I don't know where you live, but CL in my area has a ton of DR sets so they don't sell for very much. I'd maybe start with $1000, but expect to be offered less.

This is one anecdote, but...we bought a DR (china cabinet, table, 8 chairs, 2 table leaves/inserts and custom table pads) for $1800. It was in perfect conditon, still available at retail for $10K+! The seller said we were the only people that inquired about it.

Hopefully your area can command a higher price.
