Sorry the snow pile is in the way. This is our new house. The roof is black and we will be adding black shutters.
The plan for the house was to paint the front door black and leave the white trim around the door. However, now that the siding is up and there is white on the part of the house that bumps out, we're worried that all of that white looks weird. I guess I was expecting that there would be some siding showing between the white door trim and white house trim.
Would you continue with the original plan, or paint the entire trim around the door black? Will that be too much black?
I'm not going to lie, I see red doors everywhere. To me they're very "meh". Four houses on my street (of 15 houses) have red doors. I'd go blue or a cool bright purple or deep pink. Leave the trim white.

I would leave the trim white. I would also think about painting the door something other than black - red or blue would look great with your house's exterior colors.

Thanks everyone! I knew the black trim would look weird - thanks for confirming. Depending on the time of the day, the siding can look really green. It's Harvey's Quiet Willow - here it is on another house:
So red makes me nervous. I'll talk to H about what other colors he'd be open to.

See, I think the right red would be beautiful on that green. While I know red is common, it is very classic. I am not big into the purples, blues, etc. I see them as trendy and I know that painting the door is not something I'd want to have to do that often.
But a bright teal, orchid or even burnt orange would work, too.
Very pretty, btw.
Cape gray shingling, white trim, black shutters and a red door is totally classic and gorgeous. Your house had individuality already with its design so why not push the envelope further with a brightly colored door. Royal blue would be my choice but orange, sunshine yellow, teal and orchid also would look great.
Leave the trim, and pick your favorite color for the door My front door is black and I surprisingly love it, but someday I might change it. I wouldn't do red with a green house though.
I agree leave the trim white. It looks good and adds contrast. Besides it will be a maintenance nightmare if you paint it. Every window, door, and corner will have to be touched up and re-painted on a regular basis. Plus it looks like it might be vinyl which does not take paint well and is no maintenance if left white.
With a house like that, I'd leave everything just as it is and repaint the door a different bold color every time my mood changed. It would look great with so many different colors!
You have so many options and great suggestions in this thread for fun door colors. If you are a bit bold, I would maybe do and deep magenta or purple/indigo. Either of those seem very fun to me, but other colors would look excellent as well.
