So I am doing my final proofreading on my articles and although I'm pretty ok at AP style, UK vs US spellings, etc. I have never wrapped my head around whether books or movies should be italicized or put in quotations? What is the rule? Anyone? Or does it depend on what kind of writing it is? I am just asking because I have a list of movies (and books) that someone listed in their article but there is nothing that distinguishes them from the other text and I think there should be...right?
Italics. You use quotes for bits and pieces of the big things (chapter names in a book, articles in a magazine, songs on an album) but the big works are always italicized.

I learned titles of major works (books, magazines, movies, or television series) were underlined or italicized, while titles of articles or episodes are in quotations.
But then, I may be seriously old school as the last research paper I had to write was in 1995.
Totally depends on the writing. Old MLA style, for example, preferred italics. Latest edition is insisting that underline every title. If you're using AP style, not sure, but I do know all of them make you set it apart.
