I know we have discussed the placement and type of window treatments quite often here and thought I'd share this B&A from Hooked on Houses:
Before
After:
As far as I ca tell, they only changed the type of curtains and got rid of the blinds and look at the difference. I am sure the more neutral walls help, too, but holy smokes!
They raised and swapped out the curtain rods, too.
The other difference is that the first picture was taken when the trees were fullt leafed out compared to the second which was taken in winter. It makes a big difference in the amount of light in the space even with the blinds.

Yes, the rods were changed, too. I just got new, larger rods for our LR (still need to raise them) and the difference already is crazy. I would love to see that space when the trees are full. Probably so pretty!
I think getting rid of the wallpaper made a huge difference, and the curtains really were the finishing touch.
So many of the listings in our house hunt have bad decor that is really distracting in the photos....I showed this to DH as a reminder to look past a;; of the floral wallpaper and other ugly stuff.

I noticed all the other changes, but the foliage is a good point. Probably not intentional or anything but it does really add to the impression that the room is more open and light.
