My 11 year-old cat has really bad breath all of a sudden. He has no health problems and eats regularly - a mix of dry and wet food. He hasn't had a dental cleaning in a couple years. Could it be he just needs his teeth cleaned or could it mean something else?

It could definitely be poor oral health, but it can also be an indication of a more serious problem like kidney disease or diabetes. He should go to the vet.

I definitely plan to take him to the vet next week. I just wanted some feedback on what the cause could be. Given his age I'm afraid of serious health problems but hopefully he just needs a cleaning.
