I'm your size. I do a lot of shopping at Old Navy and Target. I just got home from Nordstrom Rack and had a few good finds. I occasionally shop online for extended sizes if I can't find something that fits in the store.
When I was that size I bought most of my pants and jeans online from the GAP or from the GAP and Ann Taylor outlets. I would sometimes find nice things at Nordstrom Rack, but their selection of plus size clothing was pretty inconsistent and usually skewed more the professional clothing instead of the casual ones I needed. I was (and still am) an hourglass shape so clothing designed for plus sizes always looked terrible on my shape and fit me badly so I sought our regular retailers that offered extended sizing instead.

I'm the same size and I'm tall. My favorite jeans are GAP and Lucky. I stay at home so I'm typically in a v neck and a cardigan. My v necks are from GAP and American Apparel. I also have some other cute casual tops from Old Navy. Oh, and cardigans are from GAP. Theirs are the best.
Most of my nice work clothes are from Talbot's. The clothes are expensive, but well made and the fit is great for me. For casual stuff, I have good luck at Macy's. I love Torrid for jeans. I never thought I would wear skinny jeans until I tried them on at Torrid, and now I have two pairs. I get a lot of tops and sweaters there, too. Lane Bryant is very hit or miss for me. I can usually find tops there, but the fit of most of their clothes is just too baggy for me. I used to buy a lot of stuff at a store called Avenue, but I haven't been liking their stuff lately. Dress Barn often has cute plus size clothes. Old Navy is hit or miss, but I have a few things I really like from there.

I have luck at Old Navy - it is hit or miss sometimes. They do have a plus size section online only that has much more than stores. Eloquii - also online. I have some nice stylish stuff from there. They have pretty good sales often too. Just got a chevron skirt - navy/green - it fits great and looks great. I think GoDawgs may have ordered the same one? I have a nice pair of boot cut jeans from Eloquii as well.
I'm a little larger than you (18/20) and have a hard time figuring out which departent to check. I can usually wear regular sized XL or XXL tees/tops, but have to go to the "W" section for bottoms. Lately I've been finding some good things at JCPenney. Everything I've purchased lately has been $15 or less.

I am a 14/16 right now. The best way to figure out outfits is to figure out what body shape you are and dress to flatter it. I am an hourglass with a long torso so I tend to wear longer tops and skinny jeans with flats or boots. That is one of my favorite combinations. I also like dresses that cinch in a little above my waist and flare over my hips/bum. I do wear bootcut jeans but I try to pick a top that is slightly more fitted to balance out the shape. I shop primarily at Loft (they go up to an 18/XXL online), Gap (18/20 XXL online), Macy's, Nordstroms and Anthropologie.
I'm a 16/XL, and I do mostly pants from Gap, dresses and blouses from Madewell and Anthro, cardigans and knits mostly J. Crew. I get cheaper fun things ate old navy or target too.

I'm like GoDawgs- I like primarily well-tailored, classic, professional clothes. I've worn plus sizes most of my life, and bought most of my stuff online from Macys, Talbots, Ralph Lauren, Nordstrom, Kiyonna, and Alight. Even my weekend outfits are from those stores, but Alloy and Torrid have great casual stuff. I have never found anything worth trying on at Target- EVER, except workout clothes. I'm constantly baffled how other people do, but apparently it's worth a look.

I completely agree with you on Target. I am always surprised when anyone suggests Target in a plus sized clothing post. Their clothes have no structure and are rarely flattering. When I was smaller I stocked up at Target for a ton of basics. Now that I've "crossed the asile" I can count on one hand the number of things I've purchased at Target. It kills me because their prices are good and their regular sized clothes are so cute, but the 3 racks of plus sized clothing jammed in with the maternity clothes? Not doing it for me!

I'm bigger and taller than all of you (not saying my size but I'm 6'2") so my suggestions reflect some of that. Primarily my pieces are from Sealed With a Kiss Designs, Lane Bryant, Old Navy, Torrid, Eshakti and Evans UK. I have tried other random places out and it's hit or miss like City Chic, Forever 21's plus sizes, ASOS. But they sometimes have beautiful pieces and are at least worth looking at.
I forgot about forever 21! I've had surprisingly good luck with their clothes. I browse eshaki (sp?) and Evans all the time but have never ordered. They both seem to have great stuff. Same with asos.
I'm a S&B lurker also. I do not like Torrid. I have a really hard time finding clothes in there that work for me. I'm on the conservative side and a lot of their stuff seems young and 'clubby' for me, a little over priced for the quality. I buy a lot of basics from Old Navy, but there quality is always reflective in the price and I don't expect there stuff to last, same with Target. Since JCP recently revamped their stores and brands, I'm shopping there more and more. I love Talbots quality, just not the price tags.
I'm pretty new here, lurk a lot. I'm your size and 5'8. All of my jeans are from gap outlet. I have no luck with jeans at old navy, although I get lots of tops, sweatpants/yoga pants and summer dresses there. I rarely dress up, but Macy's, dress barn or lane Bryant are pretty good.

I can't wear skinny jeans because I have football player calves. . Can you tell me what your issue with other skinnies is? I've never heard of torrid...I live in NY, I'm going to see if they have a website.
Pretty much all of my work clothes are Talbot's, Nordstrom's and Macy's. I am business professional dress for work so my suits are mainly Tahari. I also can get away with wrap dresses and other dresses with belted cardigans.
Casual clothes, I love INC jeans from Macy's and knit tops from Talbots. I prefer sweaters from Talbots. Nordstrom's always has great fun tops and casual dresses too. I will fill in with cheaper pieces from LB and Target. Target makes awesome, cheap casual dresses that I live in all summer long.
Have you tried a Talbot's outlet? Between that and good sales on regular store items, I can find their stuff for not much more than what I would pay for something on sale at Macy's or LB and it last 3x as long.

I haven't, but I'll look into it. I don't know if there's a Talbots close to me.
I love Macy's I think they have a pretty big selection and a large range from workout gear to formal wear. Im a 14 with some big boobs so sometimes i find better fit in plus size items.

I went to one a couple of hours away just after Christmas. I ended up getting a sweater (more like a car coat type sweater), 4 knit tops, and a skirt for $80! The knit tops were $10 each, the skirt was $20, and the sweater was pricier at $40 (but originally $95), and then they gave out coupons for $20 off a $100 purchase.
