Neither of which were totally expected.
This will be long and likely a little rambly. Sorry in advance. Last night was R's work banquet. He works for a large radio network. Every year they throw this huge, fly-everyone-in-from-everywhere party/banquet. We went last year and it was nice but nothing spectacular.
This year, they opened the doors late and then made us all file in through one entrance, which was done up like prom, honestly. We ate right away (buffet style but omg good) and then the CEO gets up on stage and is all ... and now for something completely different. And he introduces a member of the pastoral staff and one of the employees ... because wedding. For serious. The guy and now-wife met at work, so got married right there. Full white dress and everything.
So then they cut the cake and someone introduces Brandon Heath (who sang at Carrie Underwood's wedding.) He sang one song, then they served everyone cake.
So the CEO guy gets up and introduces the night's *first* performer. Who is Group1Crew. They did a full set, then re-introduced Brandon Heath, who did a full set.
Then the actual awards part of the banquet, followed by BH and G1C together for a song. Then everyone gets a copy of both new CDs, followed by meet-and-greet/autographs in the lobby.
I am so lame I haven't heard of any of those people.
Sounds like you had a great time!
You're not lame. Unless you listen to Christian music, I wouldn't expect you to know either of those names ... I don't think either artist has done any cross-over into secular radio.

klt - yes. The bride's dad is big news at the station. So to speak. He's been there for 20+ years, I think. They had a small family/friends section that I had totally not noticed when we came in.
candreco - I'm sure anyone who wouldn't normally have attended was footed by the bride/groom's parents, and I'm guessing they paid for cake for 600+ people. (!!!) Maybe they did the decor too? (It would make sense ...)

That said, it was a blast!!
I'm glad to read this - I also felt really lame because I hadn't heard of either of those!
That's crazy! Seems like a cool way to get married. But I have to say that when we got married there were plenty of coworkers we didn't want at the wedding, so I don't know that I would do a wedding like that LOL!
