I am looking for a 5 by 7 rug for the nursery....in blues/greens and creams.
Locally I cannot find anything. I have scoured every store that carries area rugs and everything is ugly.
I found a few on Overstock that I like, but they are over 200 dollars, plus I have to pay a 30 dollar delivery fee, and then there is taxes on top of that.....so it's close to 300. Seems like way too much.
Am I being a cheap ass? I don't really have any other options if I want a rug....local shopping in my area is REALLY limited and I have not found anything in 4 months of searching.
I live in Canada - I have like 10 percent of the shopping options you guys have. No rugs usa.....everything costs more here, you gotta remember that. I pay almost 6 dollars for a carton of milk!
But yeah it seems like so much money - I can't do it! I wish we had some stores
Peach! I'm about as cheap as they come, and I'd pay that much for a rug. I'm weirdly fussy about rugs though. Apparently, I'm the dissenter here as well.
If you really want it I have a promo code for Overstock, you're welcome too. Also google around or ask the customer rep..sometimes they'll have like 25.00 off 150.00 etc. Not much but helps some. I got my curtains for a good price that way.
I would pay that for a rug. That is, I would pay that for a rug if I didn't have four small dogs who are pretty well house trained unless there is a soft rug around.
Like Dairy, I am fussy about rugs. I like them to feel nice...especially with little ones so they are not scratchy and will hold up to spills and stuff. Better quality rugs clean easier (usually) and wear better.
Is it wool? I usually pay about $200 for a 5x7 from overstock, but its wool. I certainly wouldn't pay that much if it wasn't wool.
I paid just under $200 for the last rug I purchased but it was wool. I didn't consider anything that wasn't wool. It was 6 x 8. I am not sure why the size was odd but it looks good in our room.
Buying a nice rug in Canada is SO hard! I searched forever for a living room rug and finally found one at Homesense. Rona has some nice ones if you can make do with a plain, solid one, do you have a Rona nearby?

that sucks (the whole canada shopping thing).
I would pay $200 for a 5x7 - I just paid $330 for a 6x9 wool rug. I have already been through the 'cheap rug' phase and would rather spend my money on something quality. Even with animals they clean up better than other materials.
Come to Kelowna! Homesense has a bunch of gorgeous wool rugs in varying sizes for under $100. I almost bought a 4'x6' stripe wool rug for $80 right before Christmas. They had larger, but that was the size I needed. I ended up buying a cotton rug that was $40.
Did you check rugsUSA? They usually have good prices.
OMG mintchocochip I have to thank you for posting this! I am doing a bit of redecorating and just wandered over this board for the first time. The prices on this website are phenomenal!! I've usually bought rugs at Overstock and thought they were fairly affordable...before finding this site, anyway. Thanks!
OP, I am not a cheap shopper LOL but I think that $200 is about right for a GOOD QUALITY wool rug. You can certainly find a synthetic fiber rug for much cheaper but I just don't like how they feel underfoot. Have you tried Home Depot (Lowe's too but I'm not sure if you have them in CA) or IKEA?
