I am trying to decide how to do curtains for our family room. We have french doors leading out to the deck that are all glass. I love the look, however, the TV is directly across from them so during the day it is near impossible to see the TV. So.... I need to do something.
Above the doors is another window the length of the doors. Should I get curtains to only be the height of the doors? Should they also cover the window above? Below is a picture of the doors I am referencing. The room is a brownish/mauve color, which we don;t plan on changing any time soon. Any suggestions on color/patterns? Thanks for your help!
Is it the sun from the transom windows or the sun from the doors that's glaring on the TV? If' it's the door, I would mount roman shades on the doors. ETA, if it's the transom, I'd put that film on the window that would keep the glare from coming in. I wouldn't cover the transom. It's such a nice detail.

ITA. That is a gorgeous door, and I don't think curtains would work with it.
I appreciate the thoughts. I am not sure if another alyout would work. The only other possibility would be to put the TV near the "open" step-down area, but I think that would be pretty awkward looking, plus all the back wires would be exposed to the kitchen so that wouldn't work so well.
Below is a better picture of the layout of the room. I wasn't previously considering roman shades, as I am generally nto a fan, but maybe that would work.
Those curtains are lovely, and it's a great look, but in real life, they'd probably stay drawn all the time, turning that room into a cave.
Have you thought about putting the tv on the fireplace? It'd make this room SO much better! Then you could put the sofa facing it and the love seat looking out the doors. Sun wouldn't be such a problem for the tv then.

I am not a huge fan of TVs mounted over fireplaces for a number of reasons (i.e. I always feel they are too high and I have to strain my neck to watch). And in our case, I would hate to lose the look of the fireplace with mounting a TV. I know, I know, I need to look at other alternatives, but I am not sure if moving the location of the TV will be one of them.

I really think the room could benefit from a different layout. Having the long couch cover the door makes the room look a little closed off and awkward. Try putting the tv in the corner next to the fireplace (the side w/the doors) so the sun won't hit the tv. Then put the long couch on the long wall (maybe floating a bit), the loveseat facing the fireplace, the chair by the doors, etc. Play around with it a bit. Good luck! Once you add an area rug framing the space that wil help too.
If you decide on curtains, I vote for high mount ones that cover the transom and the doors. A higher end burlap set would look nice w/the rustic finishes in the room. Or maybe consider adding a little pattern or color.

I was thinking the same as the above pp. I'm not sure about the layout. None of your pieces are huge so I'd try to rearrange. Personally I wouldn't curtain those doors I'd do a roman shade if I needed to.
I like the curtains, but only if they are open, which defeats the purpose. So, I would do shades or blinds over each door instead. Also consider some other furniture arrangements. You have some really lovely features in the room.
Those pictures you had with the curtains are really pretty, but with all that molding your have around your doors, I'd think it would be hard to get the curtain rod to look right. I think I'd try some new furniture arrangements as well.
