You guys made some suggestions last week re: my furniture arrangement in the garage/guesthouse. I measured everything and did a few layouts. WWYD?
Here's the room:
Excuse the junk. The white shelving is listed on CL right now; hope to be rid of it soon.
Here's the current layout on graph paper (1 sq=1 ft), the bumpin on the lower right is a cement step down, the entry door and the half-bath are contained in that "missing" square:
Option 1:
Replaced by new and improved (by MCC and TBM) Option 4.
Option 2:
Removed as impractical. Replaced with Option 5 as modified from Eloise's suggestion.
Option 3:
Removed as unpopular and personal dislike. Replaced with Option 6 courtesy DH.
Option 4:
Pros: more private bed, garage door blocked only by lightweight vanity, bed and sofa can see television. Cons: ? Possibly bed blocking window into garden.
Option 5 (contingent on chest of drawers not being too tall):
Pros: Nothing blocking garage doors, nothing blocking majority of the window, bed and sofa can see TV, tall chest of drawers hides electrical panel. Cons: Bed right by the doors.
Option 6:
Pros: Less blocking garage doors, bed away from doors, nothing blocking window, great view of the garden from the bed in the morning Cons: I don't know. Not a huge fan of the sofa blocking the entire step-up on one side, but it might actually be safer in the dark.
Do you think any of the options are better than what we currently have?

I like the placement of the bed in #1. I really don't like beds in front of windows (when they block the window) unless there's no where else to put it.
Is the cedar chest too tall to be used as a coffee table? I feel like there are too many pieces of furniture for the room and the coffee table seems like the logical first thing to go.
In option 1 can you put the cedar chest where the sofa is in option 2? Then you could move the sofa back.
You mean you noticed that the room tends to be a dumping ground for ALL the furniture we don't really want but don't really want to trash We did talk about listing the coffee table or putting it in the attic. The cedar chest has a weird lip on it that makes using it as a coffee table a little awkward, but not impossible. My biggest concern is that it was built for me by my grandfather, and I'm not crazy about guests putting glasses/their feet/etc. on it. Maybe I can just stress the need for coasters.

LOL - we have a room like that too... unfortunately it's out uber tiny guest room!
I totally get not wanting people to use the cedar chest as a place to put their feet / drinks. Can you find a way to bring that back into your 'real' house? Do you have stuff in it that you access a lot? Could you use it for the TV instead of the tv stand?
after looking at your options on paper I prefer #1. I think it just has the least cons. New bedding like you were talking about before and purging any extras that you don't need anymore are all the space really needs.
Is there any way that you could put the cedar chest next to the bed? Maybe if you moved the tv toward the corner. Then you could maybe move the sofa back a little and get a little more space between the sofa and coffee table.
Yes, TBM, I moved the piece TV per MCC's suggestion and the cedar chest does fit along the wall next to the bed now (which is good because it normally stores extra pillows/blankets). Thanks!
I think the cedar chest under the window on #2 wouldn't work that well because the bed would have to be shoved pretty far into the room to give someone room to access it while standing. But I'll play with that area and see if there's an option with putting the vanity/chest of drawers and cedar chest all in that nook.
I might be On my own, but I like 6. I would not like anything to block those beautiful windows with the view into the garden. Where is the door entry into the room?

I actually like 6 too. I didn't know that there was a 6 until I read your response.lol

I'm not playing fair. #6 was added after you responded. I think I'm through adding options!
Thanks for all the really helpful input. I hope I can ditch the IKEA shelves pretty quickly so we can get to it, but no bites yet. We've had terrible CL luck lately.
