I have to admit I am horrible when it comes to decorating. I have a vision in mind I just have a hard time executing. For my son's nursery I want to do a surf/beach theme. So far all I have is the crib, dresser, and storage boxes. All of the furniture is expresso from my 2 other kids. The only thing I found is this decal from etsy that I like.
auto4&ga_search_type=all&ga_facet=surfboard+wall+art arts ones anyone have any other suggestions? Paint color? Curtains? I also do like this bedding set.
Cute theme idea. I like the bedding and the idea of the decal, but there is something a little off to me about that particular decal. I think maybe one with the name on the surfboard would be cuter. Or a decal that looked like a standing/leaning surfboard would be kind of cute.
I've seen bookshelves with the side supports cut out and painted like surfboards....it was really cute.
Since pp mentioned song lyrics I can't get "In My Room" out of my head. There are a ton of BB songs with more fun lyrics, but that is the song that popped into my head and I think it kind of works.
My grandson had a pirate nursery, and I bought the wavy mirror that ikea sells and hung it horizontally. We used it as a pattern and made a blue stripe around the room. It worked well to suggest water (no good waves for surfing though-lol), without doing anything too much.
I'm seeing a light green for the walls, if you look at the bedding the trees have multiple shades of green in the leaves. I would go a shade lighter than the lightest leaf.
I think white furniture would look best if you are willing to paint, but if not I would do any accent pieces in white to lighten it up. Beach / Surf is light and airy and fun.
Curtains I'm seeing a light blue and white seersucker with a navy horizontal stripe (or two or three) at the bottom. A wide strip or a few of different widths.

People always say this, but when I think surf, I think surf shack, bamboo and woodie station wagons, none of which are light and airy. I watched too many beach movies as a kid. ;p

Haha well I think it also depends on what beach area you frequent maybe? I know the OBX area all the furniture is white / light tan wood, white wicker, and bamboo. Definitely not espresso furniture. Plus sand is light (I'm stretching now). Although woodie station wagons are totally beach and totally not light or airy.

Too funny...and right you are! I grew up spending summers at SoCal beaches, where the beach rentals has a mish mash of furniture, the lightest maybe being 60s blond furniture, but anything but white.
I remember seeing a photo of a beach cottage that was blue with a lot of white and being surprised...I had never seen anything like that irl. I had seen photos of the West Indies and Hawaii that had dark, British Colonial stuff, and Hawaiian stuff with koa wood and tiki huts.
I love Lay Baby Lay, this link is for a surfer themed room, there are a bunch of nautical mood boards as well. The inspiration for this baby's room is pulled almost entirely from the ship-themed mood boards there.
Fantastic ideas! I'm honestly too lazy to paint furniture and the room. I think the light green would be perfect with a navy curtain? I need something in there to darken the room for nap time. I love those prints on Etsy. Thank you all for the suggestions and I'll be sure to post when it's completed. Oh the flooring is carpet. Not changing that till the carpet is warn out.
