An attorney that I have been adverse to on a few cases lost his three month old daughter to whooping cough recently. His wife was on the news last night and said that the doctors didn't advise them (the adults) to get the vaccine. The mom stated that she was the one that gave her baby whooping cough. I can't imagine how that feels.
I know my daughter's pediatrician was insistent that my husband and I get vaccinated and actually gave us the vaccine at his office. Until I was pregnant, I had no idea whooping cough was still an issue.
this is so so sad I thought it was common knowledge now to update your TDaP. How irresponsible of her doctor AND the pediatrician!!!
I just got mine on Tuesday. I couldn't remember if I'd had a tetanus booster since 2006 when they added the pertussis vaccine to it. Dh got his in 2008 so he's good.

Yes. I tried to get it while pregnant but couldn't find anyone to do it (despite the CDC saying it was okay). I had DS at a birthcenter so I had to get it on my own. I just went to Rite Aid and had them do it when he was about a month old. DH was vaccinated prior to DS being born and our family members also got the booster before they visted DS.
I got it in the hospital after delivering. DH and the grandparents got it before DS was born.
There are actually public awareness ads on TV about whooping cough here, and about how it is usually contracted from a parent and is most deadly to babies. That's so sad.
Yes, my hospital was all over us about making sure we were up to date on that shot. They might have been a bit crazier with us since my son was so early. H and I got our shots and we made sure our parents and siblings got them too. That poor mom. How heartbreaking.
I got vaccinated right before I got pregnant and DH got it a few years ago. There's been an outbreak of whooping cough where I live and the clinics/dr's offices here have a shortage of the adult booster vaccines.

That's so sad.
DH and I got our boosters for DS1. My mom also got hers. Whooping cough is quite common in my area. There are two cases at the local high school right now on fully vaxed teenagers.
I didn't make my family members get vaccinated, but I will with the next baby (if that happens). It is incredibly sad. They have started a location foundation to advise people to be vaccinated.
both DH and I were vaccinated right after birth. next time around, grandparents, etc will be as well. My SIL is pregnant and I may try to make it an issue with her baby.
No, neither of us or families have purposefully had the booster. Someone may have gotten it if they needed a tetnus booster, but we didn't ask any of them. My doctors have never mentioned it.
Oh god, I am terrified of whopping cough! That poor, poor mother.
A friend on FB, who is a chiropractor (and thus has SOME medical training) posted on facebook abou how to tell dr's no on vaccines and I almost came unglued.
I just added "whooping cough vaccines" to the list of things to bring up with my obgyn at my next appointment.
Yes, I got the booster after I gave birth, before we left the hospital. I asked my ob about receiving it when I was pregnant and he preferred to give me the shot after I gave birth. My H also got the booster.
It is an epidemic here. I was vaccinated before I left the hospital. My husband got his yesterday. We had E's 1 year well child check and since we both work in retail the pedi suggested that H get it.
You guys told me last weekend not to worry about it! Now I'm freaked out again.
I apparently can't get the regular vaccine because I had a really bad reaction as a baby. Someone here told me there is an alternative so I guess I'm going to look into that. I don't have kids and don't plan to anytime soon, but two friends have/are having babies soon and I don't want to potentially kill their babies!
There are not outbreaks here that I'm aware of, but I don't really feel like that's much of a comfort if this is going around the country. It isn't like we live in a bubble here and it could easily arrive at any time.
Yes. I needed a tetanus update, and there as an uptick in whooping cough when DD was little. DH had already had his shots updated.
My mom got it in elementary school but still insisted on going to her school play. From what she told me, she gave it to several kids, and at least one died.
