Last night my pesky puppy's foot got caught in a cord and he pulled the playstation off the shelf. The corner took a nice 1 inch long, 1/2 inch deep chunk out of the floor right in our main focal point! DH said if he hadn't actually put the playstaion away like I asked him a million times, it never would have happened. Grrrr.....
What should I do? It's all splintery so I guess I should sand it a little? Does wood fill of some sort exist? I have some of the stain left.
Do you still have the chunk? For a piece that big it's best to glue the piece back in. Sand and use wood putty or wood filler around it.
Wood putty is used on already stained furniture/trim and is not meant to be stained. It doesn't get as hard as solvent based wood filler and will eventually scratch out and need to be redone.
Water based wood filler = wood putty more or less.
Solvent based wood filler gets very hard and is good for high traffic areas like floors and stairs. It is meant to me applied and then sanded to blend in with the wood before being poly'd or stained (though some filler stains better than others). It does not scratch out and need to be redone like wood putty. Solvent based wood filler comes in small metal cans (think mini paint can) and needs to be mixed before use. You won't be able to find this in a big box store but lumber yards or specialty wood stores (like Woodcraft) carry it. It also dries very quickly and has a strong odor so you need to keep the lid on when not using it.
