If your out-of-office message is still on from MLK day, please turn it off. Even if you work in NYC and don't plan on getting to the office for another hour from now.
How many people can actually change their out-of-office message remotely?
I can. But I don't use an out of office anyway, because if I'm out of the office, I am checking my email remotely with enough frequency that it isn't worth having an out of office.
I could careless. I have people that still have their message on from holiday breaks..We didn't get MLK off, but everyone here has a cell phones, you can turn on/off your out of office message at any point.

Yeah, mine is set up to turn off automatically. Usually at 8am, but not today because I'm not there.
I still want to know why OP thinks it should be turned off when you aren't in the office yet.
I guess it depends on how it was worded. If it was worded "please note that our offices are closed on MLK day," then it has been noted and there's no need to tell me again on Tuesday.
How many people actually get MLK Day off? (Yes, I'm bitter since we go from Jan 2 until Mem Day with no Holidays )
Pretty much everyone in the South.
Hmmm, we don't even get it as a local holiday and we're in the DC metro area. They just told people to work from home or in Va/MD offices to avoid the traffic yesterday. We suck :^)

Are they supposed to come in at 5pm on MLK day and change their message so you aren't burdened by the auto-reply? OP, have some coffee. You are grumpy. It's ok, I get grumpy too. This is just such a weird gripe about a miniscule non-issue.

I'm grumpy, I know. Point taken. Admitted it above.

Last inauguration I worked at 7th and Penn and we didn't get the day off, lol. I had to take a holiday as there was NO WAY IN HELL I was going to be able to make it in.
We went to Australia to avoid it
DH works next to Union Station. Of course, he's a Fed so he was complaining this year about "only" getting one day because MLK and the Inauguration Day are the same day. He dealt with it by taking today off as well

H's company used to but now it's a floating holiday instead. It's annoying he has to go that long without a holiday off day but it's nice to just be able to use it whenever.
My boss still has his voicemail greeting from Christmas on. When do you think I have to tell him?
Now this is annoying. One VP in my office used to update his VM greeting daily, with the day and date (e.g., "You've reached XX. Today is Tuesday, January 22nd. I am in the office today but in a meeting blah blah..." I thought it was weird, but the annoying part was he was really inconsistent about updating it. He'd remember for a week straight, then forget for another week. I always wanted to tell him to just have a standard greeting and leave it at that.
An out-of-office message for a one-day bank holiday is weird. I don't think you need an auto message unless you are going to be out for more than 2 days.
