Hi! I am a longtime lurker, and I have a question I'm hoping you can help me out with. I just read over the FAQs about dog nutrition, but I'd still like some opinions from you wise ones
I have a 2 1/2 yr old German Shepherd mix we adopted as a puppy. About 2 months ago he began having some diarrhea/ poo issues. We were traveling at the time and thought it my be due to that. Once we got home we took him to the vet and were told her had a bacterial infection. The vet said he also may have food allergies and that Shepherds are known for GI issues.
The vet put us on canned Royal Canin Rx food for GI issues. Our dog was previously eating Iams, which I have come to discover is a terrible food The vet also gave us so pro

(sorry cut off by my DS)
The vet gave us some probiotics to sprinkle on his food and antibiotics to give him.
It has been 3 days since he got off the Rx food. He still has another day and a half on the antibiotic regimen. He was back to eating his Iams for the past 3 days since the vet told us to keep him on that. However, he seems to be back to frequent, runny stools.
Does this sound like a food allergy? What course of action would you recommend? I am thinking we'll change his food to a better quality, grain free food (since the FAQ said that usually a GI allergy is related to grains).

It sounds like a possible food allergy or sensitivity. Grain free could help and a novel protein (something without chicken, beef or lamb) could help too.
