I just purchased these Wear Ever Chellie flats from Boscov's in metallic grey for $20, and saw Sears has more colors as well. They're very comfy with a good, sturdy heel.
I have a different pair of Nine West flats I got as a gift and they are too narrow for me to wear and be comfortable. I think I have average width feet. Those ones do look a tiny bit wider, though.
These aren't in your price range you mentioned ($178), but I have wide feet and love my Cole Haan Air Bacara flats. They come in widths which is pretty much a necessity for me, especially in ballet flats. They are also really really comfortable. I have walked miles at a time in them. My feet are sore after an entire day of walking, but that is the case with any shoe. I've even worn them semi hiking (by accident). www.colehaan.com/colehaan/catalog/product.jsp?catId=100&productId=356920&productGroup=387804 You can also find them on Zappos sometimes on sale, and they have lots of different colors and some patterns.
