This is the front room of the house:
See the curved-into-the-wall ceilings? What do I do with those? I haven't even *thought* about paint color for this room yet, so you're welcome to make suggestions ... but do I paint the ceiling and top part of the wall down to the rail all the same color, then do below the rail a different color? Three colors?
FTR, we're not exactly sure what the room purpose is going to be - dining room, living room, family room ... that's for another post, after we get back in to take measurements and such.
I would paint the ceiling and the wall to the rail the same color. It's easier and as long as it's not neon orange or something adds a lot of depth to a space to speak. Also, tons of old houses here have the curved ceiling to the rail and it's how they're painted.
Agree with Dairy except is the wall with the bump out also curved? Looks like there is no moulding there!!! How do you decide where to stop if there is no moulding!
In the old houses here..a lot of people just tape where it lines up with the molding on another wall, so it's even all the way around, or they find another natural border (like the window trim). It is hard. I've also seen where on the hard walls people do an "accent wall" of sorts by just painting the ceiling color all the way down. It's kind of cool if you 2 paint colors in the same tone.

Hmmm, that's a valid point. There's no curve on the wall with the bay windows. I had been thinking I'd just paint the wall color up to the corner like in a normal house, but that might look weird. Maybe if I do the ceiling a lighter shade of whatever color we put on the wall, I can just paint it all the way to the floor on that wall? Derp. Tough decisions.
It's a complicated room and honestly, a complicated house. I'm so excited about the possibilities but I'm having a hard time even with mental furniture placement. As soon as I get measurements, you can expect a LOT of posts on room usage. LOL

@callmefia - to my memory it's the only room with that curve. All the rest are standard 90-degree angle corners. At the moment, that's pretty much what the current owners have done (in this weird cream-beige color), and honestly, I don't know if its the color itself or the entire room painted one color, but it doesn't do anything for me.
