So in the sibling retirement post, a couple people mentioned "Obama rich" for siblings. What does this mean, making more than $400k per year? Why call it that rather than just say, "my sibling makes enough that I assume they have retirement covered?" Or is that not what "Obama rich" means?

I think it means more than $250,000 a year (that's the number Obama was calling rich). As to why say it that way -- searching for meaning in septimus's posts is often like searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie.

Ah, I guess since it was passed as over $400k, that I assumed it was that, not what he tried to get passed.
I guess I just found it a little weird that anyone would call themselves or someone else "Obama rich" instead of telling us how they actually sit for retirement. I know some people who make a lot of money, but have almost no retirement and some that make very little money and have lots for retirement.

Are you new? People have been using the term obama rich for a long time on this board.

I meant 250k when I mentioned it in the other thread. The comment I mentioned was a few years ago. I sure hope SIL is saving for retirement on that income, but she chooses to spend a lot on stuff now, so who knows. My point was, after making comments like that, she just better not come crying to me when we're 70.
I have seen it a number of times; but I can't remember if it is on this board or CEP. Either way, it had been interpreted to mean $250k and up. Now that the $ figure has changed, I think most people consider that "Actually Rich" vs. merely "Obama Rich"

I think Obama rich is 250k. This is about our yearly salary and we feel we are rich. Granted there are much wealthy folks but we have everything we want and live very comfortably compared to the vast majority so I would say we are rich.
