Yeah, L made the switch over at right around 1 year.
Some kids take longer though- we were just at a basketball game and L played with another boy just about his age (2& some change) and the kid was still using a bottle. The Mom wasn't happy about it either, lol. She kept telling her kid to check out how nice L's sippy was and it made him all nervous. I think he thought they were plotting to swipe it.
Our first daughter took a bottle until 2 years. That was due to a "get calories into her any way you can" order from her doctor, and bottles of milk were effective in doing that. She truly was not a fan of food.
I doubt DD2 will need them after she turns one. She only takes one at 10 pm because H does it, and she's really into feeding herself with a spoon already, so I'm hoping she'll figure out cups pretty easily.

We did it cold turkey after her 12 month checkup-we gave her plain milk in her bottle for a couple of days and then quietly put the bottles away and just kept giving her milk in a sippy cup. We lucked out-she didn't really notice.

We're just starting to wean him on to dippy cups for milk. Our dr actually wanted him on bottles for milk until 15m because he's little and he wanted to make sure he got an adequate milk intake each day. I figure we'll be completely done with bottles in the next month.

Both kids I did cold turkey at 1 year. They went to bed one night, I packed bottles.up, they got up in the morning and I gave them a sippy cup of cold milk. Neither really seemed to care. We did start sippy cups with meals around 10/11 months.

We stopped using bottles at age one when she started drinking cow's milk. It made the transition easier, I think. Bottle = breast milk/formula and Sippy Cup = cow's milk.
We went cold turkey too. We introduced sippys with water around 10-11 months so she could get the hang it them. She took to straw cups more quickly. When we ran out of formula (about 2 weeks after her first birthday) we put milk in a cup and moved on. She did fine. I was super paranoid about how bedtime would go without a bottle, but it was a non-issue.
Like most parenting things, it was harder for me than it was for her.

Bonnie WILL NOT take a sippy. I have tried every single kind and she just won't take them. I've tried putting milk in sippy cups and just water in the bottle and no dice. She drinks out of a regular cup okay but eventually throws it off the high chair and spills liquid everywhere.
