Yes, most filers can start filing their returns on January 30th. Filers who use certain forms including Form 5695 (Residential Energy Credits), Form 4562 (Depreciation and Amortization), and Form 3800 (General Business Credit) in their return will have to wait until late February and into March to file. They haven't announced that date yet. There are other forms that will cause delays as well, but those are some of the more popular ones.

I believe that the problem in granting refunds is only a problem if the debt ceiling isn't raised. Since they are going to raise the debt ceiling, it shouldn't be an issue.
This is the entire list of forms that won't be accepted until a later unannounced date, everything else can be filed 1/30. I think the mortgage interest credit will probably effect a lot of people.

I haven't gotten many forms in the mail- but many are online. I downloaded and printed our SL interest forms, ING interest forms, and mortgage interest/taxes forms last night from the websites.

That won't affect many people. It's not the same thing as claiming the mortgage interest deduction on Schedule A. It's only for those who were issued a qualified Mortgage Credit Certificate by a state or local governmental unit or agency under a qualified mortgage credit certificate program.
What is really sad is that I have only received 2 pieces of paperwork needed for filing. I need so many more and I usually have received more by now.
Eh, companies still have time to get the paperwork out. I don't get worried until after the deadlines (and time for mailing) pass.
BUT I WANT MY TAX RETURN NOW!
(I kind of actually mean that -- I want the paperwork to do my return now because I want to see what we owe. Still waiting on one W2 and every non-W2 form. Boooooooo).
We're still waiting on an assload of forms too. I want to know now if we are going to have a refund or if we will owe. If it's the former, I want my money now. If it's the latter, I'm waiting until the last possible minute.
