I have a Silhouette, which is like a cricut, but better, because it's not limited to cartridges. I use it for making cards, and I have a small side business where I make birthday party decorations (banners, cupcake sticks, etc), tiles with sayings on them, and car decals. I use vinyl for the majority of my stuff, which lends itself to me monogramming and labeling everything. I also scrapbook, some, but not extensively.
I have one, but I lust after the Silhouette. The cartridges are limiting unless you have a bunch or someone to pass them around with. I use it a lot for lettering, wall art, cards, scrap booking, etc. I've made stuff for teacher friends and volunteer projects at church.
If you're into paper stuff, you'll probably have fun with a Cricut or Silhouette.
I used a cricut for about two years, and when it suddenly decided to stop working, I bought the Silhouette. The price difference is marginal, especially when you consider how much money you save by never having to pay for anything you cut. Literally, the only thing I've bought is a few pre-made designs for the tiles I make.
