lol, of course not...i'm just not sure all the behind the scenes stuff is all that interesting
Wednesday was all travel. Flight from CT to TX was rough. Daisy didn't sleep a wink and didn't understand why she couldn't move around more. I was literally murdering Andrea with my eyes for talking me into the whole debacle. Thankfully the people around us were understanding and the big kids were the most wonderful travelers ever. Flight from TX to CA: she fell asleep at take-off and the heavens opened and angels sang. I watched a movie and enjoyed my ginger ale in blissful peace (especially since DW and the kids were seated up at the front of the plane so it was just me and sleeping babe). Arrived at hotel, got room service, tried to go to bed because the rest of us were exhausted but napped-on-the-plane 2 year old was having none of it. We made a midnight call to room service to switch out her cot for a crib after I dozed off and she got into the vasaline and spread an entire container all over herself.
Thursday morning we went to breakfast then hung out for a long while in the hotel room (with the time change we were up well before the rest of California). Made some phone calls, kids played, and eventually we got dressed and met the driver to head over to the studio (hello big Escalade - you are terrible for the environment but make me feel very fancy. kids, don't get used to this!). I wish we could see more of the grounds (lots and lots of fun movies and shows are shot there - its a tourist attraction), but we were delivered straight to Ricki's studio and ushered up to our dressing room. The children were delighted to find a fully stocked snack bar and huge bowl of candy. We wrestled cheetos from their fingers before orange dust ended up all over their clothing. (omg, do not even THINK about eating that chocolate bar!!). Lots of waiting there but intermittently someone would come to get Andrea and I to sign contracts, get checked by wardrobe, and get our hair and make up done. At some point Daisy fell asleep.
Finally its time for us to go backstage. Its every bit at "backstagy" as you would imagine complete with that mirror with all the lights around it.
I sat there with Daisy in my lap getting my hair and make up touched up and the whole image was so surreal. My biggest regret of the whole trip was not getting a picture of that - but there was no way for us to be carrying around a camera at that point (plus, we were trying to play it cool. oh yeah, we totally do this every day. umm, no).
We listened to the first couple segments backstage and panicked every time the kids touched ANYTHING or BREATHED because it was nothing more than a curtain separating us from the show taping and live audience.
Our turn to go on and the plan for the kids to have a "delayed walk-on" quickly disintegrates when the producers realize the babies will cry if separated from us. So, we all trod out there. Do the interview. Kids sit perfectly still (i hope they don't look terrified! it was overwhelming for them) and it goes so quickly, but Ricki was super sweet and so easy to talk to.
then they want us to sit in the audience (to take questions at the end). Okay, sure. We sit and the next interview begins. IT IS ROSIE O'DONNELL. (via skype, but still) OMG PEOPLE. So naturally, Daisy picks this moment to start fussing and crying for 'baba'. That child has impeccable timing. I didn't hear it thanks to whining 2 year old, but Andrea said Rosie gave us a shout out! I grin and bare it through the Rosie segment then we make a quick exit back to our dressing room from where we watch the rest of the show being taped and I finally allow the kids to have their cheetos (and Daisy gets her milk thanks to the craft services people)
Things wrap up there, we see Ricki on the way out and she gushes about how adorable the kids are and how well they did (so apparently they don't hate us for the 'baba' incident). She was so, so sweet and kept thanking us for coming. Umm, thank YOU! ps - she is really pretty in person.
We went back to the hotel room, changed clothes and decide the kids definitely deserve an outlet (they have been doing amazing through all of this). So the driver (a limo this time - who are we??) brings us to chuck e cheese. It was clean and quiet and the only time I've ever enjoyed chuck e cheese in my life. We had dinner, took a walk around the hotel, and called it a night.
The next morning was packing, a "swim" in the bathtub since the pool was out of service (literally closed just for the 3 days we were there, lol) and flights home. Daisy did very well on the flights home, though we did get stuck behind a bitch on the last flight who had the nerve to turn around and say something to me about "controlling my child". Don't even start with me lady.
So, like i said, it was a super quick trip, but I'm so proud of how well the kids did and its a memory we will never forget!
We made a midnight call to room service to switch out her cot for a crib after I dozed off and she got into the vasaline and spread an entire container all over herself.
LOL Omg CT this is hilarious! Sounds like you guys had a fantastic time and a great experience! Thanks for sharing all the details with us and yes, it was that interesting!!! Do you know when it will air?
YAY! Thank you for sharing the details. The car service/limo part sounds amazing. What a bummer about the pool, but your kids obviously had a good time in the bathtub judging from the pictures on FB. Way to go for being creative enough to convince your kids the bathtub is great too!

Wow, how neat! Thanks for the update. My DVR has been filling up with Ricki Lake ever since you left (I set it to record every show starting the day you left so I wouldn't miss it by accident)-- I can't wait to see it!
P.S. I love it that you're on a first name basis with all these people now.
