I been attending weekly classes for the last month or so to teach my dog Duke as well as myself, how to properly prepare for a conformation dog shows.
Wednesday night was our last one, and honestly he just isn't getting it. I practice and he just wants to play--doesn't want to stand still into the perfect manner that he is needs to be for the show prep.
I try my best to run him a few times a week, Sundays and Thursday we try to go for 10+ miles runs through the woods which is is a rockstar, no issues with any of this or his hunting skills. But at what degree to you give in and be like this dog is not going to be able to show?
How much are you practicing t home? 5 minutes a few times a day will help. How old is he? A month is not enough time to learn, particarly if this is the first dog you've trained.
I been practicing since Thanksgiving, classes since last month. I understand it can take time, like anything, but there are certain things dogs just can't learn or aren't mature enough to handle. He is just over a year at this point.
Have you tried training him with some else (or a prof handler)?
We have 2 show dogs. (1 y.o and a 2 y.o) Both were a hot mess in puppy kindergarten and obedience class with DH and me. BUT both dogs excelled in handling class and have never needed more than 4 classes. We have a handler, same handler for both dogs. Our 2 y.o. was confirmed AKC champ at a year and a half old. Side note she is great in the ring, but a unruly pup on a walk.

Do not give up.
Didnt consider this at all, I will have to reach out to the breeder and see if she can assist us.
It will come. That's not a lot of time if you've never trained it before. A handler is something to consider, but a large expense if your not darn seriouse.
I have showed my own dogs and handled client dogs for many years, some dogs are easier then others, but don't give up! Contacting your breeder is a good idea, sometimes breeders know of tricks that go along with teaching different breeds, especially if they show and train themselves. It is harder when both the dog and owner are new to showing. It's easier for a person to learn and get comfortable with ring procedure when they have a trained dog to practice with. Depending on how close your breeder is, or if they come to your class, maybe they have a mature dog you can work with as well to become comfortable. Also if its an option try another training facility, sometimes its a matter of finding the right combination of trainer to help with tips that work for you.
