A little background: I had surgery in August to remove a 10cm cyst from my left ovary. Lap diagnosed severe endo and some kind of uterine abnormality. Surgeon wasn't sure if it was a septum or a bicornuate uterus (think, bunny ears). MRI performed; shows instead that my uterus is arcuate (heart-shaped). Confusion.
6 weeks after surgery, the cyst that was removed had regrown to 6 cm. I was referred to an out-of-network surgeon who is the best of the best for laparoscopic endo surgery. Cue 4 month insurance fight. Got approval, had surgery on 1/14.
Turns out, it WAS a septum. A really bad one. "Complete," if you will. From fundus to cervix; my uterus was split in half. So my 2-3 hour surgery turned into a 4.5 hour surgery, where they removed as much of the endo (and recurrent mother fucking cyst) as possible and cut out the giant, thick septum.
I woke up in the hospital with a balloon catheter in my uterus and was told that because of the severity of the septum, they opted not to remove my fibroids. Doing so would have been too much trauma for my ute at one time. This meant a potential 3rd surgery.
Post-op follow up today sounded more promising though. Doc wants me to start meds next month to induce my period and once it's over, he will do a sonohysterogram to see if the septum has grown back. It is not uncommon for septa to regrow after excision; especially compete septa. IF it has not regrown, we will postpone further surgery talks and be allowed to TTC on our own. Doc is mildly concerned that the remaining fibroids could be problematic but I guess not worried enough to go after them without trying naturally first. If the septum has regrown, it will be back to the OR for me.

Good luck with everything Berbles. Sounds like you are getting good care.
If you don't mind me asking- what about the fibroids is he potentially concerned about? I have a 5-6cm fibroid within the uterus wall, and my doctor isn't concerned, but I do wonder if it could be contributing to it taking us longer then I expected.

Radishes, I would get a second opinion on that. What I've read says that intramural fibroids can be concerning w/r/t fertility/maintaining pregnancy. And 5-6cm is big. Mine are 2-3cm and he wants them out. They're not as concerning as submucosal (inside the uterus) fibroids, but, again, 5-6cm is big and could be distorting the shape of your uterus and making it difficult for an egg to land.
The thing is though, excising intramural fibroids can be difficult and doing so could put a substantial delay in TTC. I beleive there is a longer recovery time.
FX for you berbles. I also have fibroids, had some removed and still have one in my wall, so i know all too well how it goes. damn things!!! i'l keep my FX that yours cause no problems.
