pain killer for dogs

Hi, this is my first post over here.  I wanted to get advice on a pain killer.

My dog seemed to have a slight sprain yesterday, and then this morning before I could stop him he took a leap off the porch into the fresh snow and wiped out.    Now he won't put any weight on that paw.  I'm now noticing the affected paw is swollen so I'd like to give his something to help with that.  He's resting and icing right now.

Can he have ibuprofen or aleve?  I'm going to google now too, but thought someone might know.  He's about 55#

Growing up, I had a little Pom with arthritis in his back legs.

The vet told us to give him 1/2 a baby aspirin when we noticed he was limping. It always seemed to help. He was about 12lbs.

thanks, it looks like asprin is the one to use. I'm checking dosage and then will go pick some up.

I would take the dog to the vet and get pet pain medicine.

Take your dog to the vet. The vet can prescribe a pain med (usually Tramadol) and/or an anti-inflammatory (usually Rimadyl). Both are inexpensive, and Rimadyl is available as a flavored chewable.

Just an FIY, a dog that size can take a full baby aspirin. I have 2 dogs that size and that's what the vet told me to use.
