i'd nix on both of those yellows just because it gives me flashbacks to an old colour we had here. it was okay in the daylight, but looked like snot at night with the fake lights. at the very least, do a big test swatch and make sure it reads well after the sun goes down.
eta: i'd probably choose something different all together, something creamier but more of a white cream than a yellow cream. i love that rug!
LOL@ reference to snot. EWWW. The cream is not showing up right on the monitor.. they look way to peachy or saturated here. The paper chips of the Jersey cream looks closest to the lightest color on the rug.
If I knew what you were referring to as team cream i will be laughing too. I am easily amused. Please do tell what that means. But don't if it's gross. haha.

Timid blue has my vote. I like the open air but I'd buy a small sample and paint a big foam board that color to see if it's too bright. I hate yellow paint.
Nix the yellow. Out of the blues, Timid Blue is the better option, but they both read a little green to me. I know this wasn't an option, but how do you feel about cream? Maison Blanche would look good with your rug.
Based on your photos, the gold wall looks fantastic with your wood and the blue looks... gross. So I'm on "team cream", a lighter version of the gold that is already painted, or a lighter taupe than what is present in your rug.
I really thought the rubber duck was going to enter into the equation.
My monitor isn't color accurate enough to pick one, but I like the yellow cream. I always love those shades so I'm biased. I don't think blue would be bad though.
I have a blue living-dining room that is close to SW open air. Mine is a Behr paint but I don't recall the color. I love the lightness that this blue brings. When we bought the house, the living-dining room was painted a cream with green undertones and I found it dull. When we painted it blue, it brought such a freshness and lightness to the house.
So I am leaning towards blues this morning the blue swatches look more crisp to me in daylight. The previous color on the walls was a dark brown and looked like poo. I wish I could drag the rug to the store but it's huge. Lol! I was going to bring a fan deck home but the store ran out.
I am not stuck on any color right now. So cream/taupe can still be considered. The side walls continue upstairs to the loft. I have to pick something that will look good both upstairs and downstairs and still work with different furniture and rugs. Oh and the ceiling in the LR is yellow knotted pine. So DH thinks gold or yellows will be too much of that color family so he thinks we should contrast instead.
Magdala, blue definitely feels fresh and light to me too! I need to find a different blue I think. I Googled pics of open air & it's little too blue. I think I need to go lighter.

lol.. I uploaded the pic to "letschipit" & the duck definitely picked up. It's Sw Daisy.

I'm on team yellow but I would go lighter than either of your options. I personally have a hard time choosing light blues that don't look like they belong in a nursery.
I am torn but I'm going to call Team Cream on this one. TBH I just don't get the yellow hate around here. Rubber ducky yellow, yes, but a soft pale yellow, totally don't get the dislike.

I've done a yellow/cream from SW and their stuff tends to run pretty strong. I like both of your cream colors, but you should be aware that you may end up with a much stronger yellow than you wanted. I've been loving a color called Alabaster from Eddie Bauer. It reads as a much more neutral cream than the SW colors, even though it shows up just a little pink on screen:
I've had it color matched into SW, so I can give you the formula if you want it.

Everyone has different likes and dislikes, and different reactions to colors. Some like bright, some like light, some prefer blue/green/whatever....different strokes for different folks.
I have problems with yellows...some make me happy, but most yellows, especially pale, make me edgy. I've tried, it is just not a good color for me to live with. I can appreciate it in a space when it is done well, but if given a choice of another color and asked for an opinion, I am probably not going to choose yellow.
I think both light yellow and light blue are difficult to get right....both can scream 'nursery' if the right shade isn't chosen.

The rug is beautiful!
I don't think anyone used the term hate on here. And there is a lot of love for yellow in this thread. Just because a handful of people prefer blue doesn't mean anyone is hating on yellow.
Ok so maybe hate isn't the right word and I wasn't referring to a dislike for yellow in this particular thread. Debates on the color yellow date back to TN - I know that because once when I suggested pale yellow for somebody's kitchen I was told that "yellow is so 2010!" But like TBM said, different strokes.
I love that rug! Can I ask where you're getting it or if there is a brand/style name that I could try looking for it elsewhere?
I like cream the best. Not the two yellows/golds you posted because they'll be a lot more yellow than you planned. We have SW Cottage Cream in the DR & kitchen and I love the color though it's fairly yellow with the south facing sun. We're painting Maison Blanche in the LR & hallway and we just put Neutral Ground and Westhighland White in the master bedroom. All 3 are varying shades of cream and ivory. I'm a huge fan of the Concepts in Color series of SWs because they are more muted and less primary color based. We've come to find that even though our favorite colors are blue and we end up using blue in almost every room that we don't like blue walls because they look so sad and gloomy in the winter time. They also don't look as good at night with incandescent bulbs (or anything in the 2700K temperature range).
That's a pretty rug (and ducky!). I personally don't like too many yellows on walls. I'd pick one of the blues. My favorite is Open Air, but Timid would also look good.

Hmm...with this update I'm still kind of on Team Blue, but I generally gravitate toward blue. I'm trying to change that up, so the Jersey cream might be nice.

Oh fox! The rug was my CL score last winter! I bought it for $75. It is OOOOLD! Anyhow, still has a tag and it says WORLD CARPETS, Kerman II style 27, Color 652 BLUE. I did a quick search on the company and found the company merged with Mohawk in 1998.

Oh and it's not wool at all. It's 100% nylon.
LOL thanks for doing all that work. Dang it! My search continues.
