There are two bathrooms in a potential house. They are full bathrooms except the upstairs bathroom, where my roommate's bedroom would be (there's a downstairs master), there's only a tub and not a shower.
I don't know why this is except it's an older house.
Is this something hard to change? Is it possible to fix this or is it a mess?
Obviously roommate prefers not to shower downstairs if possible.

I added a showerhead to a tub-only bathroom in a house built in 1927; I don't remember the cost, but I don't think it was prohibitive. The pipes are already there!
You can add a shower head on that diverts from the faucet without having to add a "real" shower head, even if it is just a temporary fix. Is it a standard tub with a wall there, or is it a clawfoot or freestanding tub? There would be different ways to work with different tubs.
We have something similar to what token posted added to the old claw foot tub in our guest bath. They mounted a surround shower curtain rod to the ceiling, and we hung vinyl shower curtains all around, with a nicer cloth curtain on the outside for appearance.
It looks like something even I could have figured out.
It's fixable, probably just a few hundred if you want to plumbed into the wall and just use a surround shower curtain. We did this in the bathroom at our last house.
We had looked at just doing a riser off a faucet, but I preferred the wall mounted approach.
I think that this is something that can be addressed with relatively low expense. Plus, some people love those claw-foot tubs. You can do something nice like Pamela's picture above.
