What does everyone think about mixing wood furniture finishes in a room? Specifically white and expresso?
Our living room/dining room and kitchen are open to each other. Our kitchen cabinets are white.
Our existing dining room table, coffee table and end tables are all expresso/black-brown Ikea finishes. Our new couch and chair coming in Feb. will be a dark gray color. Our floors are a medium/dark brown. Walls are light gray (SW Mindful Gray). I'll be adding in light blue accents and probably a cream shag area rug from Costco.
I found a console table at HomeSense (I think it's called HomeGoods in the US) that I fell in love with, but it's white. I've started really gravitating towards white furniture pieces lately, especially with the grays we have going on in our house. But, I don't have any plans to replace our existing expresso furniture pieces anytime soon so I was wondering if it would look okay to mix this white console piece in with our existing stuff?
The console table also comes in black which will work as well but the white is what I really like:
I have a lot of white and espresso wood furniture in my home. I love the two together. My staircase has both and I have a console table that is both and I think helps tie things together.
We have similar tastes! My formal dining set is all dark espresso but I've moved towards more white painted in the adjoining living space. So far, it works! I like the white and super dark mix.

Boooooo DH and I went back to buy the white one and found some damage on one of the corners of the table. It wasn't just a matter of touching it up with paint, the wood was damaged and DH could easily snap a piece off .
So we bought the black one instead! Lol still looks good I think, maybe it was just meant to be.
