It's beautiful, but I'm sorry, they lost me at 128 man-hours and still $2.55 sq/ft. If I'm losing the equivalent of 5.5 days of my life over something, it better be CHEAP.
Someone at the mint is probably shitting their pants. Penny loss is apparently a huge issue b/c people throw them away, literally, or umm use them for other things, like floors.
I have to say, I'm not a big fan of the penny floor. Also, it just seems like a lot of work for something that although is original, isn't extraordinarily beautiful IMO. I often wonder how a penny floor would impact re-sale value though.

Interesting federal offense....
I'm not diggin' it - the color looks sort of 70s to me (in a bad way). I do like penny tile though. What happened to that? I feel like I saw 5 backsplashes w/penny tile and it was whisked away by subway tile.
I like the look of it, but not a lot. Not like enough that I would want a penny floor or that I would participate in creating a penny floor. More like, "oh hmm that's interesting. Neat floor."

I once saw this amazing bench made out of pennies. It was huge and maybe $600? The pennies were welded together and then supported with this amazing point-structure. I'm still mad at myself for not buying it. I bet it was over $600 just in the pennies.
Penny tile is really hard to maintain from what I've heard. SO much grout.

Good call about the grout issue. I probably wouldn't use it unless it was a small space or a backsplash.
