Oops! Posted on MMM instead of here. Just curious what you all pay for a routine annual exam to update your rx.
I have been seeing a discount provider who is only $50 for a comprehensive exam (includes retinal scan). Unfortunately, I pretty much hate the optometrist (he pushes and pushes about me buying contacts at his location after I have told him I have found a best price online. He seriously pretty much has called me a liar twice now that VisionDirect's prices are lower than his. He is wrong. And the last time I was there he mentioned something that was a potential problem, but he refused to talk further about it and I didn't understand what he was saying).
I have been calling around to local optometrists and wow! I am astounded that it is about $200 on average for a first time patient exam plus contact lens adjustment (most places insist they would have to refit me too, which seems crazy).
I don't but my DH just went in for his annual. For the routine exam plus a years worth of contacts is $600 out of pocket & $400 with "insurance" (which is just basically a discount).
I use my vision plan for my eyeglasses and I go to America's Best for contacts. I'm in their eyecare club so I think I get a couple of exams per year. They price match for contacts but I still purchase mine from Costco because it's cheapest there.

Eye exam, retinal photo, contact fitting $100. Lenses are $180 a year for my day and night lenses. I go to Costco. My optomitrist is afilliated and is really go - found the source of a vision issue I had for years and fixed it.

I kinda think your expectations are too high -- I mean, for 50 bucks you want a full exam and a great, compassionate doc who listens to you? I pay about $175 I think for full exam, contact fitting, retinal scan. I don't have vision insurance but my medical insurance covers part of the cost. I then order from coastalcontacts.com.
