We do the same, I can now push out the afternoon nap an hour or two if we're out, but otherwise I try to get her home. Shell sleep 30 mins in the car or 2 hrs in the crib. Decisions, decisions. ;p. I've taken to yelling and rolling down her window if she's falling asleep in the car close to home.

The other day DD was falling asleep in the stroller on the way home, but I knew if she did she'd wake up as soon as the stroller stopped moving and refuse to go down. For the last 10 minutes of our walk I had to keep leaning over and poking/tickling/jostling her to wake her back up. But I got a 2 hour nap once we got home!
It's amazing how quickly you forget. I have no idea how to respond to this post and it's only about ten months ago that I was in the thick of it. We always let her dictate her own sleep schedule, which may have contributed to not sleeping through the night until 14 months. Therefore, I probably would not have been much help ten months ago either.
She sleeps 3/4 naps in the crib. I always feel bad taking her out in the stroller when she is awake. I assume it is boring, same as the car. But maybe I will try to let her cry a bit at the 45min mark. Sometimes she smiles at me when she wakes up like she is laughing at me ...ha ha, I only did 45 min again!
Last night, on a good news front, she went down with some crying but slept 830 (by the time she fell asleep) until 530. She woke up at 3 to feed, but I gave her water while I warmed her bottle. When I got back with the bottle, she was asleep.
